Fabia VRS MK2 lowering and further mods

Featured Replies

Hi,

im new to the forum and just need some advice and guidance

i own a Skoda Fabia Mk2 VRS 1.4 TSI. Im thinking of doing various mods including Stage 1 possibly 2 upgrades, ive got a straight pipe cat back already, my next mod would be lowering the car. I live in London so naturally tons of humps pot holes etc, i want comfort but mainly aesthetic look to lower it. From what i gather springs are good but will bounce the car like a bouncy castle and coilovers would be better. How can i judge how many mm i would need to lower the car. Ive attached a picture which shows a massive gap between the rear tyre in particular and the arch of the cars 1C811326-7AA0-4693-919D-19C996FA8658.thumb.jpeg.8a68dde9d659234dcffd5679b5124bf1.jpegbody. My aim is to completely remove this gap, i dont want the car sitting on the tyre but a 1mm gap i wouldnt be too fussed about. I have a clip on youtube of my car under the channel ‘Cars and More’. The guy is a known youtuber that does reviews and has a Vrs himself. Feel free to check it out. Any advice help or guidance would be much appreciated. I am new and not very familiar with cars that much, so please go easy on me

thanks in advance

H&R 40mm are good i use mine on track and they have been fine.

Just to hop on this, will stage one require upgraded clutch packs as the gearbox can only handle 250nm of torque?

Also what exhaust have have you gone for from the catback? Tryna look into something for livening it up a bit.

VW say and just use them to 250Nm max, plenty people have Stage 1 or 2 with a standard DQ200 and 300Nm plus.

So the DQ200 can not just handle 250Nm.

Usually with Stage 1 all the stock equipment will be fine, with stage 2 you’re looking at upgrading air intake and things like that, stage 3 and more you’re looking at upgrading clutch, turbos etc much bigger things. This is from my understanding based on my own research feel free to correct me.

My catback was done by a garage in Ilford. All they did was remove the centre box, straight pipe through to the back with a back box delete and replacing it with a small box. I think thats good enough for £300. Scorpion do it for like £500 and miltek even more. Then you’ve got to pay someone to fit it and labour could be another £100 at least. Im satisfied with what i have, if you check the youtube video i mentioned you can hear what it sounds like

yes thats him its his video titled “My VRS vs subscribers VRS with modded exhaust”

i dont know how to share a youtube link on this sorry

Here you are.

Your car was first registered in June 2013 so built and running the Software Engine management that was not yet sorted out in early 2013,

which is maybe / probably why your car had an engine replaced.

& Is he sure that he has 2 years warranty on a replacement engine replaced under warranty.

Maybe if he paid something towards it, or is was not a Skoda Warranty.

Original VW parts do have a 2 year warranty, but the issue comes with Skoda/VW when replaced under their warranty and only runs to the end of a Manufacturers Warranty Period and there have been issues with a Skoda / VW extended warranty.

I am not really bothered by the engine as i’ve driven the car for almost 5000 miles since ive acquired it without a drip of oil consumed, any issues or any problems what so ever. The Cave/CTHE engine issue from what i understand was rectified late 2012 so even some of the 62 plates would have the updated engine. It’d be silly if they didnt update the software. Nonetheless my quiry isnt regarding engine or software. I just wanted advice regarding lowering the car and possibly any recommendations about remapping

You are right that the change over of CAVE to CTHE in the Fabia was the last months of 2012.

But that was not the end, members here got the new CTHE's, even one that had a CAVE oil user, then his new CTHE was an oil user,

Skoda / VW had the engine management wrong.

So the 2013 SEAT Ibiza with the new engine was delayed and new Software was required which Skoda never introduced until Mid 2013.

There are Fabia CTHE that have had to have the Oil Spray Jet updates and software, so the change to CTHE never sorted things and then the Timing Chain Tensior issues emerged.

Not a problem for you on the Early CTHE since your engine has been replaced, surely with the Updated Oil Spray Jets from the factory and the software update,

and the remap should not cause any issues.

Any places you recommend for a remap?

An APR Dealer or AmD Tuning. In Scotland see Ecotune in Glasgow Autohaus in Edinburgh or Star Performance in Fife.  Loads of other trusted tuners around but avoid REVO for a twin charger remap.  Dyno first, you want to know what you are starting with and with a used car has it a remap already..

Lowering threads above, might be wrong here but we have never seen a CTHE Dyno on a map, in fact seem to remember this coming up quite a lot in the CAVE Vs CTHE early posts.

On a CAVE 'Ade Tuning' got me to 202BHP but that was from 173.5 (Nom spec = 177) so we went up 28.5BHP just from a map and an intake. Milltek Exhaust adds nothing but sound better!

We have seen a CTHE on a Dyno and in Video.

@Furbytom's as an example.

Has it been mapped do you know?

His has not, but eventually after a few years of asking a Dyno of a remapped CTHE did appear on this forum.

There were dynos shown with a Blue Spark tuning box posted and that gave over 210bhp.   vRSForever had a cracker of a car with a Tuning Box fitted,

then an exhaust built by Tony Banks.

i drove it and it was pretty good.

Here is a standard CTHE.  (I think @Furbytom still has his estate, or his good lady has.)

See the vid posted by a member on 9th November and the 213ps vRS

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/357839-fabia-vrs-estate-rolling-road-run

(Edit, vids gone.)

As well to learn by others mistakes,  just do things right the first time, everything has been tried over the years.

(and take lots you hear with a pinch of salt...)

There were bargains to be had but never Brand New for £12,000-£13,000 in 2012-13.

Just re-read the furbytom post, there is something that gives an extra KICK in 5th 5000rpm mark on CTHE over the CAVE, (i think the conclusion was they they must be mapped differently)

Be interesting if the OP does actually crack open the ECU and map rather than a tuning box.

3 different maps for a CTHE if a Fabia vRS 2012-2014.  (they are not all the same, and various Engine management was run 2009-2012 with CAVE.)

First CTHE engine management was replaced mid 2013, then an update after that.  Then some of the DQ200 DSG's that needed the Software Update that is '34H5', 2013-2015 boxes.

VW tried to be sure the ECU was locked when the CTHE was introduced,. Worked for a while.

  • 5 years later...

So I’ve recently brought this mk2 Fabia VRS.Very happy with my purchase… I’ve read through all the forums for potential upgrades etc it has covered 83,000 miles & had the following RTMG induction kit cobra cat back exhaust window tints spacers all round remapped to 208bhp 310nm with a gearbox map also, with receipt and dyno graph40mm H&R lowering springs 2 brand new nankang front tyres wind deflectors.

I’ve got a list of mods I will be looking on purchasing:

RTMG Turbocharger intake hose

RTMG Blow Off Valve

NGK BKR7EIX Spark Plugs

NGK R8 Coils & Adapter

AIRTEC intercooler

Mud Flaps

Maxton Spoiler/Side Skirts/Splitter

Am I right in thinking this 310mm Audi S1 brake set up will fit straight on with my current 17inch VRS wheels?
