Fabia 3 SEL 1.2TSI 110 Service

Featured Replies

I have had the above car from new and will be 4 years old on 24 March 2019.

Up till now I have had it serviced at my local Skoda dealer every year on its anniversary to keep the warranty intact.

However, I am now planning on getting it serviced independently but was wondering if I should go on a flexible (2 year) service or fixed one year one.

My service book states that the car was originally on a flexible service from the factory but must have been changed to a fixed service by my dealer.

I know my dealer has been using the VW504 long life oil when serviced so should last for 2 years.

I do about 5000 miles a year doing typically between 8 and 40 miles on each trip.

My question is should I leave the long life oil/filter in for another year or change to VW502 oil/filter each year.

Given that the servicing should be done on time or mileage, plus the low mileage you're doing I'd have assumed that the oil may well last fine but filters etc. might need replacing between services if you're considering every 2 years. Has this been discussed with the independent or your dealer?

Sorry this isn't too informative! I'm sure someone else will be along to give you a more comprehensive answer.

My wife's 2015 Polo 1.2TSI 110PS, which runs 7.5>8.0K miles a year, has been on fixed time/miles servicing from new and I bought a 3 year service + MOT plan with it as I intended to use the supplying dealer while in warranty to stave off any possible nasty happens.

I will now do all its basic servicing and brakes and so that means probably sticking with LL oil 5W-30 Mobil One ESP as I tend to use that on all the cars I end up servicing.

So, for this year's servicing, due in August, I have bought a set of VW Group NGK spark plugs on line, a VW Group air filter (Mann) and 5 litres of Mobil One 5W-30 ESP - all bought when at a really good price, and an oil filter from ECP - again a Mann product exactly as supplied to VW Group dealerships parts department.

I'll give the pollen filter some thought as it is a Mann like original fit but a Frescious version, again I usually buy via ECP ahead of time when the price is best.

Edit:- I plan to keep this car for many years, so I'd prefer to treat the engine rather than save money on oil - I'll also be cleaning out the brakes in April or so when changing the wheels/tyres to the summer ones - brakes get ignored during normal servicing at main dealers, so if you leave them until they cause trouble then you have brought that on yourself, being proactive has always served me well as far as cars are concerned.

Doing 5,000 miles a year and if using Long Life Oil 5w 30 FS LL VW504/507 or 5w 40 FS VW502 00 i would still change the oil and filter annually.

& Spark Plugs at 4 years which counts as the 2nd major service, check the air filter, change if required etc.

One thing that I have found out when I bought the new spark plugs, they have copper sealing washer on them and the top contact has changed from the original maybe 100 year old design to something newer and probably more suitable for modern COP assemblies.
