Fitting rear view wing mirror

Featured Replies

What is the degree of difficulty fitting drivers wing mirror complete, please. I have managed to replace the missing glass, but ideally I would like to get a colour matched replacement, as a couple of the cover fittings were broken in the accident. I could live with it as it is, but the car is my wifes' really and she would liker to keep it as nice as possible. Thanks for any advice.

Not massively hard.

To replace the entire thing, you'll need to whip the door card off to access the connectors and bolts that hold it on.

If the metal parts are OK and it's only damage to the plastics and mirror, they can be replaced leaving the wing mirror/door card attached :)

Thanks for that langers2k. Sounds like something I can do myself. I'll have a go when I find a suitable replacement. Very grateful.

@carbman there's some technical info here about removing and replacing the plastic outerware for the mirror.  There are also several youtube clips that relate so a quick search over there should help too.

You are showing your age if you still refer to them as wing mirrors!!!!!

Haha! J.R. Yes, unfortunately it happens all of us if we are lucky enough. On the positive side, at 72 we have just been presented with a beautiful first grand daughter and it has transformed our lives immensely for the better. Hope you like her.

@carbman pleased to note the clear and focussed gaze in your selfie but as a more mature person myself I'm interested to understand what adaptations were necessary for you to effectively manage the controls from your car seat; servomechanical extensions, voice operation, eyeball operation (a la Steven Hawking)?

Haha! StickyMicky. Sorry for delay, I've been out of circulation a few days and didn't have internet access. If only I was as capable as what you credit me being. My limit is fitting a blown headlight bulb today, without re-course to any form of reference. Result!!
