Bilstein b14

Recommended Posts

Heelo guys,

Is here anyone with bilstein b14 installed on their octavia mk3 ?

If so, do you have any kind of noises after you take a big pothole or you go over a speed bump?

I installed the suspension with new flanges and bearings. At first i lowered them to almost max and the sounds after taking bumps were lound and frequently. After reading about the pre-tention of the spring, i gave the ride a little bit of height. I am now on half the lowering rate, and it still gives me clunk noises after rolling over a speed bump or a pothole.

What's the purpose of the coilovers if i cannot enjoy the ride at my pleasure height? If i lift the coilovers more, i end up almost the same as stock mk3 vrs suspension, and that is high for me.

I really want to hear your opinions. Cheers!

Don’t forget you have drop links and ARB and bushes and potentially bump stops that can make noises.

Yes, i know that some speed bumps make noises, but my suspension does it all the time. At first i thought that i have bad susp. mounts, but they are ok. After i increased the height of the susp, the sounds were diminished. But are still there. If i increase the height to maximum, maybe the sounds will be gone, but i bought the susp to have a good ride quality and a decent drop.

Echo this. I have a bilstein b12 kit and thicker ARBs front and rear. Have had to replace all the original droplinks when they failed within a month of each other and fitted new topmounts when the new dampers went in. Handles really well now though....

Did you go oem or specialist top mounts?

Also don’t forget that for example the drop links will potentially be too long when the suspension is fully lowered

Oem mounts

The Bump Stops that @cheezemonkhai was talking about are a part of the suspension.  Usually fitted on the shaft of the shock to prevent full compression when either hitting big bumps or running lowered.  I would check if yours need them as I know the B6 and B8's have internal bump stops.  if you need them and don't have them fitted, the noise could be the shock bottoming out which could cause quite a lot of damage.

If it were mine I would be raising the height until I found out the issue.  Stock length drop links could also be rattling against things.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

The bump stops on b14 are inside the damper, Like b8 and b6. I solved the problem by increasing the height a little bit with 2 turns. Not my ideal height, but now seems to be ok. Talked to a friend that has the same problem with b16, and also had before, kw v1 with the same problem. The springs need a better pre-tension than other coilovers.

My height is now 65 cm from ground to fender on front and 64 cm on back. I will put a photo as soon as i make one :)

Your b12 kit is with eibach pro kit springs(black) or sportline springs(red)? A picture would be nice to see the height. Thanks
