Tyre help. Dunlop Vs. Bridgestone?

Featured Replies

My friend has Dunlop SP Sport 2000e on his vRS, while I have Bridgestone Turanza ER 30 on mine.( both are 205/55/R16)

Yesterday he went over a sharp stone and blew his tire (careless driver). Also he has broken a the belt on another one. So i suggested he should change the entire set, although he has done only 4000 Kms on his car. I drove his car today and straightaway felt that the car was not as stable as mine and the grip was very poor. and i have done 11,000 kms on my car.

Want i want to ask is which of the above two tires will you reccomen?

Sam, there are many many threads on here about tyre choice. Try a search and see what you can find.

A good place to start would be to search the Octavia forums for threads with the words Tyre or Tyres in the title.

You have answered your own question. Dunlops are rubbish in terms of grip.

Toyo T1-R's 225/45/17 are the way to go :)

Oooops, just seen you have the 16'' wheels. I would still recommend the T1-R's although I am sure someone will be along soon to recommend the Goodyear GSD3 :)

Unfortunately the Toyo's are hard to come across in India. And even then they are grey market, as in no after sales support.

I agree with that. I have Dunlop SP3000s on my car and they seem to have about as much grip as I imagine a cauliflower would have

GOODYEAR EAGLE F1...you were right MisterGT!

Cant really say which one is the better off the two. Im using Dunlop SP Sport FM901 225/45/R17 on my TDi, and i must say that the performance i get out of them is decent for my car, much better than the Silverstone FTZ 235/45/17s i was riding on before. Another friend used his GSD3's to the max and really drifted on them all the way to baldness within 20k Kms.

I dont know about the SP FM901. I have however driven both the tyres in question. And i felt th ride on the SP2000e to be very disconcerting while doing violent lane changes in between other vehicles, whereas the Turanza felt much more in control. I have the turanza on my car.

The turanza's felt real safe even on the grand hyatt road in Vasant Kunj at 210km/hr. .

Unless my friend's suspension is shot. He has done only 4000 kms on his car but he is a singularly careless driver. Pot holes and speed bumps are an excuse to go even faster for him.I do however hear a lot of rattles from his suspension and steering column.

17inch rims + Potholes = Lots of Rattles for sure! Planning to upgrade to H&R coilovers for the red 1.8T, have used up the present suspension within 10k Kms.

PS - yes that road is good, especially at nights. One sunny afternoon i was gunning my tdi at 160kph down it and i see cops on one side with their speedgun... i dont think they even got a fraction of a glimpse of my registration plate. Lucky me :D

U need a rada detector;)

I have another option for you, Yokohama AVS dB(V550 - technical name), they have great road holding and are very quiet at high speed.

Thanks. I'll check on that tyre and see if it's available in India.I have seen yokohama around. dont know about that specific model

The dB's are super quiet for sure. I just put a set of Yokohama ES100's (18s on a Merc W210), they turn out to be practical in terms of cost and performance. dB's dont have much of a market here so theyre only avl. on order hence more expensive.
