felicia turbo-please help

Featured Replies

Hi, i created my account so i can ask this question...

i have a 1997 skoda felicia LX 1.6 (75hp) and i would like to increase hp by turbo or supercharger and if it exists race-chip

but i dont know how to do it i dont know what turbo, where to get it, or anything else for that matter.

this is not a serious project i am building this with my friend just for fun so im not looking for realibilty or some mad 300hp output, if i can get 100-120hp output i would be happy.

can i switch out some ECU in this model or no, i can get easy acess on dyno of my friend so i we can remap it there.

what do you think, i saw one guy doing it but i cannot contact him, i only saw  photo of it.

below is a pic of my enginebay.

what do you thing guys is it doable??

What is the spec of the engine? If it's simple mechanical driven fuel system (even if injection) then I'd read up on basic turbo control. A small turbo with manual control would be easy enough to fabricate. Just be sure not to overdo it. One thing that would help is a slightly thicker head gasket. The extra air creates higher compression. This can be overcome somewhat by raising the head to reduce compression ratio.

Thank you marky,

i have a mechanic/fabricator near me who can assembe me a manifold for a turbo but i still dont know what turbo to use and all.

all i know about the engine is 1.6 petrol engine with cold air intake.

im not sure if it has cuarborator or throttle body, maybe i can swap those for big bore ones and get more power there?

theres a bunch of photos online of people allready doing it so it is possible right?

Dig about on ebay for a small turbo.  And i mean small.  Have a read of this and you will start to understand the complexities of what you are planning.  At the very least you need to have somewhere for the boost to dump to when off the gas or you may entounter runaway.  Regardless of the fuel system, you should be able to rig up a basic charged setup with with manual boost control.

Looking at throttle bodys etc is not something that I have much experience in.  You may need to look at the fuel delivery (to provide more fuel) alongside the charging as running too lean you will blow holes in valves and turbos.  If the diddy turbo turns out too small then an intercooler will go long way to helping bring inlet temps down again.  Come to think of it i personally wouldnt charge an engine without a cooler.  Oh yeah and dont forget to rig up an oil supply for the turbo.

If you are able to come up with a design and have the space under the hood then anything is possible.  The rest depends on fabrication cost which from the sounds of it are fairly minimal for you.

Please let us know how you get on.

Anther thing to add is the ignition timing.  The increase in inlet pressure has an asosciated increase in temperature regardless of intercooling.  It also will increase the compression ratio which introduces predetonation.  In addition to increasing the head gap as stated in my original reply, retarding the ignition would help with the predet issue.
