Creaky bonnet

Featured Replies

I've got an 06 fabia vrs, which has the 06 seat wrinkle. I took the car to the dealer today to look at the seats. Whilst there I got the garage to take the car for a spin, as I've had a buzzing vibration noise from around the instrument cluster. (typical the buzz wouldnt appear). There's also been a creak as well which I also assumed was the dash, however the mechanic said it was body flex. Down to the sports suspension and low profile tyres. This sounded a bit odd to me, but I'm no mechanic.

On the way home the creak seemed to get worse, so getting home I investigated and found that pushing on the bonnet top ridge I could get the same creak. I proved the problem by popping the bonnet then putting it back down on its first latch. Quick drive round the block - creak gone. Bonnet down properly creak back. Anyone else had this one? Needless to say it will be making its way back to the dealers....

I'm investigating a creak at the moment with my dealer. They said they had fixed it by lubricating the arb bushes. It came back a week later. It sounds to be coming fro the dash/pillar area so Isuppose it could be the bonnet. Any ideas how to solve it??

For what its worth you could try the thing I did. Grab the top ridge on the bonnet and pull and push on it, try all along the ridge. Or just pop the bonnet make sure its on it first latch and drive round the block.

Inside the car the creak sounded like it was coming from near the windscreen, under the dash, towards the A piller. Outside it sounds like the creak coming from somewhere near the bonnet hinge. I've tried WD40 on it and checked the bolts on the bonnet side of the hinge. Both tight. I dont have the tools to easily check the hinge bolts where it attaches to the body.

I'll report back what the garage says when I mange to get in to see them. Hopefully in the next few days.

If it's the same as mine it was traced to the beam running across the bulkhead behind the dash. Take off the panel on the end of the dashboard moulding (driver's side) and carefully spray WD40 towards the bulkhead. Cured it a treat...

Sorry, forgot to post the fix (for mine).

It turned out to be the small plastic tabs on the bonnet hinge that stop the bonnet wobbling. These were dry and rubbing against the paintwork making the creaking noise whic reverberated into the car. Sounding a 100 times worse than it actually was. The fix is to either use a bit of oil from the dipstick or vaseline (not tried this) and smear over the bottom of the tab. Hope this helps.

Sorry for going off topic - but did the garage sort your wrinkly seats out kprida?

Mine is booked in for two weeks time...and am hopefully going to get a few things enabled via VAG-COM.

My 06 vRS only has one creak so far...and it happens between 1k and 2k RPM AND ONLY when the engine is cold! I think i also have that buzzing behind the dash but its not very severe (yet!)...did you get that sorted?

Hi, cheers for asking,

I spoke to skoda uk (appears the garage were waiting for them) and that greased the wheels as it were and things are now progressing. A retrimmer looked at my car yesterday to see if he thought he could do something with it. Thankfully he says he can! It should be going in, in the next week or so. Apparently the bloke sorts out the trim in bentleys and ferrari's as well as more mundane cars. So I expect he'll be able to do a good job.

The buzz from the dash has disappeared, which is a relief as the combined noise of the bonnet creaking and the dash buzzing was annoying the hell out of me. Touch wood the car is now pretty quiet.

Totally off topic, what is the point of the slot below the Radio? Put more than one cd case in there, put your foot down and the lot flies out!

I find it useful for jamming my sunglasses in :)

My dealer has said they should just replace the entire seats with new ones...not sure how true that actually is, guess ill have to wait and see

From speaking to other people who have had trouble with other cars and seats. It seems rare for the maker to actually replace the entire seat, but fingers crossed for you. To me it makes more sense but perhaps financial for the maker it works out cheaper to just repair.

Apparently skoda uk told the garage to heat the seats to get the wrinkles out. So perhaps we should all just iron them ourselves :D Needless to say the garage was skeptical, as was I!

I have a sh|tload of creaks and noises going on...however, I only see it now as part of the ageing process :D

put some oil on rubber bits under the hood. & guess wot. its all quiet on the western front
