Difference between TSI 1.4 and TSI 1.5

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have initially ordered my car with TSI 1.4 150 hp 4x4 dsg but by the time the local dealer made availability they told me it is not available in 4x4 anymore.

I am supposed to receive my car within the coming few days and was wondering what is the difference between the 1.4 and 1.5 TSI engines. My understanding is that they provide the same power. So what is the difference and are there any issues with the 1.4 that are corrected in the 1.5. ?

PS. I am in Egypt

Thanks,

The difference is obviously 0.1.

But you knew that.

Power is the same at 150 horses.

There are no issues at all with the 1.4. It’s a lovely quiet, nippy motor.

The 1.5 is an evolution in VAG and you can read all kinds of horrror stories on these pages.

I’m sure they’ll all be fixed by the time I want one in my next car.

Here...

...and here...

In a nutshell, the 1.5 was designed to be more-efficient than the 1.4 within real-world driving scenarios. From the drivers seat it is almost impossible to tell them apart.

A Nutcase or 3 at VW (junior engineers the bosses will blame) thought they could get away with people not telling the difference if driving a 1.5 TSI EVO that they ****-ed up the real-world driving scenario that was to suit a WLTP / RDE driving senario.

But that only lasted so long and some other less nutty VW employees had to say we will get something to sort dodgy ones by the 2nd quarter 2019.

We await what, how and when!
