Left hand drive Fabias - where's your bonnet strut?

Featured Replies

Which side of the car is the bonnet strut located please? A pics not necessary, but just trying to work out if left hand drive fabia's also put the bonnet strut on the "wrong" side of the car, when they also put the steering wheel on the "wrong" side of the car. ;):D

 Mil? :D I imagine you've got some engine bay shots. ;)

Bonnet strut?, not sure if this helps any.. i imagen that the strut is that orange thingy on the upper right corner.

Aye, so it is the same place. :D

Wonder why the bonnet has the same 3 fixing points on the opposite side of the car then? It has two rivets and a hole for a locating bit on the bracket.

I think therefore my lifter project will have to be limited to just the single side, unless a bracket can be developed for the bonnet as well as a bracket for the butt as well....

Thanks :)

@ Jason that implies no room on the left of the car as seen from the front (avoiding the use of the term driver side :D )

Oh, there's room on that side, its just 1% more awkward. I was sort of hoping a bracket existed in the VAG parts world for the same bonnet strut bracket, but on the opposite side of the bonnet. It would appear likely that there is not and a bracket would need developing, in addition to the bracket for the butt. :)

I'm sure you'll find a way considering the 'slight tweaks' done to your PD100 ;):D

Oh yeah, an L shaped bracket, two holes drilled to secure to bonnet with self tappers, and one hole for the ball joint to secure through. Its just another bit of R&D I was hoping wasn't needed. :D

The Ibiza/Polo uses a single lifter like the Golf iirc.

and with the amount of kick a single lifter has at the end of its lifting, I think it would be unwise to go for two. (they're damned powerful really, for a single gas strut  )

only one gas lift on my golf
