Groaning Scout

Featured Replies

I have recently bought a 2010 Octavia Scout with 82k miles on the clock. Unfortunately, I have no service history or access to previous owners. When turning left or right at slow speeds I hear a groaning noise from the back.  I'm guessing that it's something to do with the Haldex mechanism, but none of my local garages know anything about the Scout.  Can anyone point me in the right direction of how to narrow my search please?

@Taffy99 - A 2010 Scout is probably an Octy 2, not an Octy 1! Having said that, when was the Haldex oil last changed, because it's due every 40_000 miles.

Yes, it's and Octy 2.  As I said, I have no service history. But my question is whether the Haldex is likely to be responsible for the "groan" on left and right turns?........(I'm assuming that the oil has never been changed).

@Taffy99 - Well, with no recent service history and 82k miles a Haldex oil chance can be assumed to be due, and may solve the problem.

Get it into a garage to find out, it's probably a diff/ haldex issue.

OP says "none of my local garages know anything about the Scout."

I agree with you about the likely fault, and am pretty sure it's (over)due a Haldex oil change.

Most mechanics can navigate their around cars whatever the make, the Haldex system isn’t unique either.
