Blind Spot Issues

Featured Replies

Has anyone had issues with the blind spot switching itself off when you engage reverse. I have to manually switch it on via the screen menu & when I go into reverse I get a loud ping & then it says switched off.

With this & the ongoing mirror issue, I'm getting a bit disillusioned now. Love it, but have now been to the dealer 4 times & I can see a 5th one coming up in 3mths of ownership

Visit to service and clear fault codes.

I had battery disconnected and some electronics went crazy. Clearing fault codes solved the issue.

Thanks. Its since the battery was removed to try to sort out the mirrors. I feel yet another call to the stealer is in order

I've had the same issue with mine since it was delivered mid-December. Has been in twice to be looked at, start of Jan and of Feb. Both times there were no fault codes and no issues showing up on the control units.

However, in both cases once plugged into the computer for diagnostics and systems re-enabled the settings seemed to stick. After the first visit this lasted about 4 weeks before it started playing up again. Not had it re-occur since the second visit about 7 weeks ago so will see how it goes.....

Thanks for this. The dealership have been useless, and because they need it for 2 days to ‘investigate’, I need a courtesy car. That means a wait of a month for it to go in.

interestingly, if I switch it on manually it’s fine, until the sensors kick in (front or rear) and then the whole thing pings up as dead.

Sounds like something to do with the car thinking there's a trailer hitched.

....was thinking the same thing, have you a tow bar, if so was it retro fitted (by dealer or third party)?

I don't have a tow bar fitted to mine and the issue was present from day one.

The day after it was delivered I was playing about with the settings and noticed that the BSD and RTA were disabled so I turned them on. However, noticed a couple of days later when driving that the BSD lights in the wing mirrors weren't lighting up when traffic was present in the blind spot.

After a bit of playing about with it I realised that every time it was put into reverse the systems were disabled with a very brief message flashing up on the MaxiDot to say the systems were unavailable.

Like I say the issues not re-occurred since last visit to dealer but they couldn't find any faults.

No tow bar fitted. Tried it again recently and got this up as well

The 'Blind Spot Assist' sensors are in the rear bumper.

The reason the system is disabled with a tow bar fitted, and something plugged into the tow bar electrical socket, is that the trailer / bike rack etc. obscure the 'Blind Spot Assist' sensors and would result in false readings / alerts. Quite why they have to be manually turned back on again is strange, you'd think the car would know when the trailer lights have been disconnected i.e. the obstruction is no longer there, and automatically reactive the sensors. Even on Kodiaq's with the factory fitted tow bars the 'Blind Spot Assist' has to be manually turned back on if reverse gear has been engaged (after something plugged into the tow bar electrical socket has been removed).

As you have no tow bar fitted, and as you're getting the 'sensor obscured' warning only when you place the car in reverse makes this sound very much like a software issue related to the settings designed around a prospective tow bar fitting.

As with many of the other technologically advanced systems fitted to the Kodiaq, Skoda are continually issuing software updates to correct known issues and gremlins.

A disadvantage of buying a modern car, packed with technology. A lot of manufacturers use us as their testers, instead of properly proving them out prior to launch.

The failure of the passenger side mirror to return to it's previous position, the 1.5 TSI engine saga, and many others are prime examples. All you can do is book it in, make your dealer aware and hope they've got visibility of a fix via their diagnostics systems.

Blind spot gets deactivated each time you connect trailer plug. Doesn`t restore itself, you have to switch it on again manually.

But after you switched it on and you find next morning it`s deactivated, it`s definitely a fault.

The other error I get is this

The dealer genuinely hasn’t had this before and don’t really know what to do apart from ‘booking it in for an investigation’

This was the same error I was getting when putting the car into reverse, never saw the other one but then it only flashes up briefly so not the easiest to spot!

Yes, I only really found out about this through trial and error - for a while I thought I had a fault with my car - it certainly wasn't covered in the vehicle handover nor in the Owner's Manual. I find it a real PITA to have to remember to manually re-select both the Blind Spot Monitor and the Rear Traffic Alert after each time I use the towbar. Some eejit in Skoda may think it's simply clever - to me they've not finished the job!

For me at the moment it’s every time after I’ve selected reverse or the front sensors go off. Ruddy annoying, and another 3wks before the dealer can fit me in

Its a safety issue, ring Skoda Assist from the comfort of your armchair.

When they arrive and can't fix it on your drive, remind them that you don't feel the car can be driven, and they'll sort you a hire / courtesy car, at their cost.

You might then be surprised how quickly the dealer / Skoda UK find a free slot in their workshop.
