Turbo problems

Featured Replies

Good morning,

New member here, I bought an mk1 vrs a few week ago and have had nothing but trouble with the turbo. Thought I had a bargain, full service history, flew through its mot the garage was impressed how tidy it was for 15 years old!

Anyway after running the car for 10-15 minutes the turbo is cutting out and not spooling up sort of going into limp mode. I always run the engine for a few minutes before setting off and don’t rev it hard until the cars warmed up.

There’s been a few things blanked off, had the N249 bypassed, EVAP solenoid blanked off and a few other bits I’m not sure of yet.

Fault codes have been coming up as, pressure drop between turbo and throttle valve, EVAP fault code and now showing low boost fault from the N249. Has had a leak test done, and that was spot on. Changed DV back to standard.

Any ideas on what it could be? It’s back in the garage again next week to sort the N249 bypass out but something tells me there’s that’s only part of the problem.

Thanks for your help!

Check for cracks in the pipe to the brake servo, as that can be hard to spot, and creates all sorts of wierd issues.

Do you have the actual fault code numbers so we can try to help a bit better?.

I know it has fault code 17705, not sure if what the other two were exactly but it’s back in garage next week to sort the N249 bypass out so that one should be cleared.

Any idea why the EVAP system would’ve been blanked off?
