Loss of power steering

Featured Replies

the other day when starting my fabia vrs the power steering warning light stayed on and i had no p/steering.turned engine off and restarted fault still there, started to move off thinking light would go out and steering return but no was like it for about half a day.then all of a sudden light went out and p/steering returned has anybody else had  similar problems and what was it.it has been fine since, vrs going in for 3rd service soon so i might mention it then.

Yes, It happened to me yesterday in a McDonalds drive thru. When I turned the ignition on the light stayed on and the power steering was out. It was actually better to drive! IMHO  I then turned off the engine and back on, and it was all running fine, no VAG COM Fault codes either. I Have a theory that the Fabias ECU runs Windows 95:eek:

Hi Jason

What do you mean might

I would get straignt on to the phone and call the dealers.

It could possibly be a couple of things that I know of , but it could do with getting sorted sooner rather than later.

Your warranty will be up soon and you want it right.

You would be ok the power steering going as your going in to a roundabout.

Best to get it checked out I think.

My power steering gave up the ghost two weeks ago, driving along and the light came on steering whent very heavy in turns and then the light whent out only to return a few 100 yards later i was not far from the dealers so called straight in , they managed to fit the car in for repair lent me the Octavia vrs for the day and got the car back next day,new rack and switch. Excellent service from DavidIan in Morecambe.

I hate the Fabia's Power steering, it's too light. If you corner fast I Find it under-reacts and then over-reacts to the steering wheel. If I "Turn It Down" Using VAG COM will it cause any extra strain or wear on the steering system?

Get thee to your local dealer post haste. It will be either the steering angle sensor has malfunctioned (the cheaper repair if not still in warranty) or the power steering pump (hope its still in warranty if its that as they are £400 odd quid )

Sorry to be the barer of bad news!

had same prob on wifes fabia, especially on a frosty morning, dealer replaced the pump etc under warenty all fixed!, would have cost well over
