Skoda, the new Ford ??

Featured Replies

Just an observation really, not looking to start a debate, but driving home tonight (22 miles motorway and Town Centre, prime rush hour time) from work I swear I saw more Skoda's than any other make of car. By most popular were the Octy's followed by the Fabia and even a few Supurbs - all differing specs and engines, with the majority being 04, 54, 05 and 55 plates.

Just wondered if anyone else has noticed the rising number of Skoda's on the roads, wonder what the market share will be in say 5 years time? Will Skoda be pushing the likes of Ford and the other main brands in the UK?

I would imagine that in 5 yrs time the car market will be dramatically different, with no guarantee that Ford will be the size or power they are now.

You will notice more of 'your own brand' car. Kia is another one that's making a lot of headwind in our area.

Over time people will switch brands, Skoda is/was very good value etc so I do agree there are a lot of Skuds out there that have proven reliable & apparently good enough to create a good bit of interest :D

Kia and Hyundai do well in this area, long warranties and free servicing are two of the many attractions.

Our local dealer has a chavved up Sorento like this..

Looks pretty swish if you ask me.

That Sorento looks like a carbon-copy of an M-Class to me....

I think you will find that car design goes in circles IMHO eg. all of Chris Bangles' cars look the same, and I bet whoever worked for Mercedes 10 years ago has been seduced by big bucks from Korea now.

Very true, its why modern day SEATs look like Alfas, they nabbed thier designer.

The Kia does look like an M class indeed, but prices start at

I was the first Skoda owner on our depot. Now there are 3 others and plenty

more people looking to buy one.

Hopefully not. I like to keep that 'Ha, Ha there's one of those V.W Skodas ! (but they finished 2nd in the Driver Power survey 2006' Hmmmmm ........ :rubchin:

If Skoda are serious about becoming a big volume seller, they're going to have to improve their build and quality control and lose their "VW reliability".....!

Chris

Considering that Skoda are the ONLY manufacturer to finish in the top 5 in the JD Power Survey for the past TEN years, I think the owners are suitably impressed. P.S - Ford finished 24th this year. ;)

both of which i thought were good... do you meen skoda or ford ?

Joel

According to Lex (which is the only decent survey out there because opinions form no part - only facts) Skoda is the best European marque for reliability.

Anyone who's had a bad one will undoubtedly view the brand with some suspicion though.
