Replacing rear discs without removing caliper bracket

Featured Replies

Hey Everyone,

I'm a new member to Briskoda and I am in need of some clarification.

I'm looking to replace the rear pads and discs on my 2005 Octavia 1.9 estate. I heard a lot of people on here mention that with some of the smaller discs, you can get them off without removing the caliper bracket. The discs on mine are 255mm. Can anyone confirm whether this can be done with 255mm discs? I really hope so, the thought of having to remove the m14 spline bolts is filling me with dread!!

Cheers!

I can’t specifically remember but I think on my hatch I did this. Depends on how rusty the old disks are, had problems with having to hammer the disks off due to rust on hub and around the lip on cars. Due to this the disk catches on the caliper carrier. However, I like others found a way to remove those spline bolts, spare jack on the socket/rachet/bar and slowly jack the rachet and the bolt comes lose, more pressure than some people can exert without cracked knuckles.

Surely it pays to get them off now rather than leave them longer for them to really get seized in?

Buy new bolts in case you have to ruin the old ones getting them out and go crazy with the copper grease.

Then periodically buildre-greasing them into your servicing and maintenance routine.

Fairly certain that mine were 255mm and they came off without any problem without removing the carrier bracket.

Same vehicle but 2006.
