What size spare wheel and tyre now?

Featured Replies

My old car was a 2011 Octavia VRS TSI. The tyre and wheel on the old car was a 225/40 R18. With the old car I bought a spare wheel. It was a steel wheel with a tyre and wheel size of 205/55/ZR16. This spare did not upset the rotational system on the car whenever I had to fit it, only the once thank goodness. I still have this spare wheel, even though the car was traded in for the new one.

Okay, I have just bought a 2018 Octavia VRS 230 TSI. Wheel and tyre size are now 225/35 R19. So bigger wheels and even lower profile tyres. My question to the wise among you all is, what size spare wheel and tyre do I need to get now? In anticipation of the answer, thanks. By the way, the new car is bloomin great.

Using a tyre size calculator your existing spare is only 1.28% different in diameter from the tyres on your new Octavia so that's OK, but will a 16" wheel fit over the brakes? Probably not, but other vRS owners will have to answer that...

I might just have to take a front and rear wheel off and give the spare a try. Hopefully I can reuse the spare wheel I already have.

Yeah that's what you'll have to do cos, you need 17 wheels to clear the front brakes

Are the front brakes bigger on a 2018 MK3 than on a 2011 MK2 then? I had this spare on the front of my old MK2 once and it fit.

They are both a TSI, I just never knew my latest MK3 had bigger discs. If that is the case, bugger!! It would be a bit of bother if I get a puncture in the front tyre, to get a rear one off to put on the front and then put the spare on the back. Still, you don't often get too many punctures anyway, so might just stick this old steel spare wheel in the boot, just in case. The last 2 damaged tyres were well split open on pot holes, so that useless gunge Skoda supply would not have been a lot of good at the time.

PITA or not, your 16" will work with the front/back swap so, go with it, at least you know how to deal with it.
