Dash fuse box mounting

Featured Replies

I have a 2017 Yeti 1.2 DSG whilst fitting an hard wired Nextbase web cam I find that I am unable to fit a piggy back fuse to fuse location number 6 (Rear window wiper) and refit the fuse box cover. The fuse block is mounted at an angle meaning that one side of the block of fuses is almost touching the cover and once the piggy back fuse is fitted the cover will not fit back correctly.

has anyone come across this and if so how can it be overcome.

any help would be appreciated, thank you.

I cannot remember which fuse I piggy backed and the car is now sold. Cannot you use one of the cigarette lighter fuses as these are permanently live.

Colin

Use a multimeter to find a different switched live?

Thanks for your comments, I am after an ignition fed fuse, unfortunately using my multimeter all of the other fuses the are constant feed on the side of the fuse block that would accept the piggy back fuse and still allow the cover to close.

My reason for wanting an ignition controlled fuse is to allow the dash cam to switch on and off with the ignition.

please see attached photos that shows one side of the fuse box sitting outside of the cover location

Those brackets look like they’ve been bent or twisted. From memory mine was mounted flat with plenty of room for a piggyback fuse (which I fitted for a dashcam, as you are trying to).

I recon you’re right weasley, the vehicle has had no work done to it since I’ve had it from new, trip to the dealership is called for tomorrow! Can only guess it happened on assembly.

Thank you for your comments, most appreciated.

I have the same problem, when refitted the cover is a bit bowed. I just put up with it, you can't really see it unless you look for it, so fit and forget!

Good luck with the dealer, if the cover fits as supplied then they will state (correctly) that it is fine as is. Dash cam is a retro fit so not their problem.

Thanks Expatman, I shall get them to fit the dash-cam if need be, apparently they are doing a fitted dash-cam offer!

It can then be their problem to fix!

I would agree, both of those brackets look as if they have been twisted.
The bottom one should be easy to bend a bit more inwards.

For reference, this is what mine looks like with a piggy-back fuse in it. I believe it was the NextBase kit I used. Whilst it is close, I haven't noticed any issues with the panel closed.

Hmm, actually looking at that picture, I might want to look into protecting the red cable against the screw at the bottom to stop wearing.

Thank you it definitely looks straighter than mine!

Looks the same to me  - and the same as mine! I guess it’s a matter of a couple of millimetres in or out! Mine is a couple of millimetres out so the cover is slightly bowed when fitted whereas GerrardUk’s might be a bit “in” so piggyback fuse doesn’t interfere with cover. Or, maybe the piggyback fuse holders are slightly different sizes, which would also account for the difference in cover fit?

Thanks Expatman, I recon that’s right, if you look at the fuse board on mine adjacent to the four 10amp fuses it projects some 10mm+ past the lid location (also the black plastic fuse board moulding appears damaged).  On Gerrarduk photo the fuse board is almost aligned to the lid location in the same area. I see that Halfords stock fuses with a breakout cable, by using one of these and an inline fuse (of the correct amperage to suit the dashcam) I am sure that it would allow the cover to seat correctly.  Maybe as you said earlier a case of fit and forget.

I think so, with the cover fitted on mine there is a slight bow which when first fitted I obsessed about! Soon it was just as it was and unless you look for the bow you won’t notice it. As my wife said - what are you on about, looks okay to me and who looks for that anyway.

You sound just like me Expatman, just goes to show our other half’s usually right, just don’t tell them. Thanks to you and others for the comments, most appreciated.

Mine is exactly the same.

Hey, I also recently fitted a dashcam and ran in to the same issue, so if you find a solution let me know!
