Track Rubber? A048R, 888's or k6a

Featured Replies

Looking to get some track tyres for the Golf, Currently got Toyo T1S in 215/40/16 - I think not 100% on that, cars at Jabba so cannot check!

Any ideas which tyres will be worth getting? And where to get them from?

888's will set you back and disappear, althogu hthe golf is fairly light weight; it will eat your NS tyre, carry a spare ;)

For your first day I'd seriously consider Road tyres, for one they are more progressive and will allow you to explore the limits rather than being handed your *** mid corner.

K6a are good, talk to southshore tyres, despite the light weight of the golf, you could again eat a tyre in one day, depends how solid the golf is.

Personally of that list, I'd go down the khumo route with 6 or 9 for the first season.

If it's caged, the ku31 roady's and some part worn slicks., because then yuo can go where you like and corner like you'll never believe...till you come unstuck.

some part worn slicks.

I'm going to the nurburgring next month - I did 30 laps lastyear so starting to get a feel for the track. So slicks are out of the question, the car is a stiff as it can be, Thick ARB's all round and strut braces...

The problem I get alot of at the moment is torque steer, will sticky rubber help to eliminate this?

Are they any other tyres worth looking at ?

A little harder than all the above, what I run in the summer is the Dunlop Pro Race 9000.

Also a south shore tyres deal.

K9 or 6, no idea of the real wear rate. The dunlops are good for 2 trips on a skyline...I've done 5k on em and easily have that left, not as grippy as they could be but I get 2 years out of em :)

Torque steer, no if anythign it will be enhanced as one wheel will grip etc...who knows all I know is I am prepared for it before I feed the power in, when I'm not I try to catch it :)

I recommend whatever I just bought off Shifty, just because I have them now (not even on the rims yet)

I think they're Kuhmo V700 or something like that. Dave will clarify.

think he had K9 on the front and K6's on the back,

The ones Jason has are V70 K9a's, all 4 0f them. I bought them to use on the road.

They are amazing.

The ones i used on the ring, were k9 up front, k6 at the rear, pre ARB on the Furby.

The ones I used on the ring, got me there, did 29 laps, go me home, and did two active track days at Anglesey Circuit, plus some Sunday night "playing". I still have them, and would say they would give another day at Anglesey, so wear is pretty good.

anyone?

Yep, the K6 or K9 is the compound.

I ran medium/soft which is the K6 IIRC.

I got 3 track days, 75 Ring laps and 3500 road miles from them :D

A048R and R888 all come in a variety of compounds to suit the car you are running them on. I currently run A048R on my Westfield, and they are superb, very progressive and I find them better in the wet than the A520 that used to be on it. The only thing they really don't like is standing water, avoids puddles and you'll be OK.

As for the R888 they are becoming very popular because the Westfield speed series is sponsered by them, and hence they are cheap. Grip wise they seem to be on par with the A048R, both in the dry and in the wet. The only thing to note about them is they appear to tram-line more than the Yoko.
