Radio volume gone

Featured Replies

Here's a strange one...

The car was parked in a multi-storey car park. Started up as normal - no sound from the radio. No big deal thinks I, DAB signal is often blocked in such places. Set the satnav and the nice lady in the dashboard started talking to me as usual. Out onto the road - still no volume from the radio. Scroll wheel doing nothing at all, moving the infotainment volume control put the volume box onto the screen but no green bars and no sound. Radio presets all present and correct, and all other infotainment functions working fine. A soft reset of the Columbus and all was back to normal.

Anyone else experienced this?

Not experienced this in particular, but I did have a weird one last week.

Like you I left a multi storey car park and the park pilot stayed on- just the image of the car with the reversing graphic stuck on the screen...no beeps thankfully.  Tried to turn the radio on, off and on again, but it was totally frozen on this.  Was a bit peed off as I had people in the car and we were starting a 3 hour journey with potentially no music or radio.

After about 5 minutes the unit switched itself off then back on again and all was well.

Maybe its multi storey car parks....   :D

ps how do you do a soft reset of the Columbus?   - for future reference!

Press and hold standby until unit goes blank and powers back up (you will see the splash screen logo)

Thanks Penguin

Mute was on? Sometimes while scrolling, you can press the wheel hard enough to mute the sound.

Great shout, but sadly not. Mute shows a red line through the speaker symbol and that wasn't there. Turning the scroll wheel or infotainment volume control normally un-mutes it. Neither of those things worked. It hasn't happened again, so it's a bit of a mystery really.

So I'm pleased to say I've got to the bottom of this. :)

A couple of days ago the radio went off - surprise DAB blackspot. Tried the volume control and got exactly the same problem as previously (no volume bars). Changed the channel to one that was playing and all was well. To confirm it, I deliberately stopped in a known no-signal area and tried it again. Same thing. So the answer to the original problem must have been that the DAB signal which has always worked before and since just wasn't working that day. Another "feature" identified :D.

I’ve had this a few times. The DAB option vanishes from the Columbus and if I leave it on Media long enough it will start an MP3, but FM radio works fine.

Only fix I’ve found is to press and hold the power button for ten seconds or so and let it reboot. Comes straight back on.

I have this happen when listening to DAB too.  I simply press the tuning button on the left of the steering wheel either up or down and as soon as it picks up another signal I press the arrow in the opposite direction and my chosen channel comes back.
