In Ireland Diesel still way cheaper then petrol.  Plus nothing beats proper torq at the very low RPM     Petrol is evil , diesel is everything ( until hydrogen in power cells  ) 

Funny though I have never managed to get more than 40/41 ltrs in mine when close to 0 miles range left (1.6 tdi) so was thinking my tank can't be the stated size.

Tanked three times, 42 l, 44 l and 45 l. There has been 50-70 km left (1.5 TSI).

Feeling brave (with a spare litre in the boot😎) I pushed ours 47 miles past '0' today....took 51.05 to fill, I'm thinking there must be 5 litres in the tank when the display shows '0'....?
