Why cant i enable reverse camera?

Featured Replies

Before i bought the china reverse camera, i checked via vcds if i can enable reverse cam. Enabled it. It worked. I mean it showed the black picture. (obviously no cam.) Then disabled it, because it was disturbing without cam.

Now it arrived, wired it, with cvbs adapter and all. And now if i enable the coding, it wont show up anymore. Resetted the rns 510 unit, but still nothing.

Vcds: enabled backup cam in navigation coding, steering and parking assist menu, and even in can gateway.

What can i do?

At a guess, this will be a NTSC vs PAL issue.

You should check the camera and CVBS converter are compatible.

but no picture shows up at all, in reverse i only get the original optical parking assist screen. At first time i enabled the cam, i had a second button on the optical assist screen, where i could switch to cam. But now i dont even get that button. Even though i enable the same settings as before.

Sounds like you've coded it incorrectly or not restarted the RNS-510.

A full autoscan might help.

Your VCDS version needs updating...

It looks like you've tried to code a highline camera which has moving lines. I think you should code it as a lowline camera so get rid of address 6C unless your instructions say otherwise. Might be worth clearing the other intermittent faults too.

Have you forced the RNS-510 to restart using the standard three button method?

yes, i restarted it multiple times. no success.

After coding it for a lowline camera rather than a highline?

no, that not. so i just disable 6C in can gateway? thats it?

in navigation part, i can tick only " reverse cam low(without control module) installed" this is what i need to enable. but just wont show up, so weird... i had it once

That's certainly what I would try.

okay, tomorrow i will try, and report back. btw the camera says supports both pal and ntsc.

The camera can only output either PAL or NTSC, there is normally a link wire that can be cut to change the output.

You need to match the camera output to the input of your CVBS converter. It might take both PAL and NTSC but I'd expect it to only support one.

okay so i got it working. you were right, i had to disable 6C. idk why, but i just had to drive around some, and then when i had to reverse, the cam appeared again, i was so happy. BUT when i start the engine, the picture is "shaky" i guess i need some kind of filter to it, can you help maybe what i need?

It's probably down to either the power supply to the camera or the reverse light feed.

I'd use a clean feed from the fuse box for power. As for the reverse feed, some people have used relays (search the forum) although they might buzz. Otherwise, one of the camera delay boxs for the MIB/RCD330 might provide a cleaner reverse feed.

I used a genuine VW camera so never had any issues with interference :)

where does the camera mount on the car ? can you post a picc of whats displayed on the car stereo. I might fancy fitting one. cheers Stuart

Normal location is either the boot lid handle or some replace one of the licence plate lights.

They show you what's behind the car ;-)

Lowline have static guidelines and highline have moving guidelines that adjust as the steering wheel moves.

Plenty of images if you Google for them...

Just make sure your headunit has support for a reversing camera. All Columbus/RNS-510 should and some (not all) Amundsen+/RNS-315 do.

OK thanks for that mines a FL Ocy Scout 2009 fitted with a Bolero

Pretty sure the bolero never got a camera input so you may be out of luck unless you change headunit. Sorry!

No probs, I thought it was the same unit :blush
