Toyo Tyres

Featured Replies

What do you think of Toyo Tyres, I've had a T1R fitted in an emergency and think the grip is amazing, love the 'V' shape tread and I have read that the V clears water faster, The reason I'm asking is they don't seem to be a popular brand in the main dealers.

My experience was a very long time ago but they used to be superb tyres, had a couple of sets on different vehicles and the grip and dynamics were superb.

TI Proxes IIRC

Similar opinion of the Proxes T1-R, with the note that you may find you need to run pressures 2 or 3 PSI up on what the filler cap says.

Good in the dry, not so good in the wet, noisy and soft so don't last long.

But they're better than Ling Long/Wan Li/Ever Green/Federal/Nankang et al!

Only thing I would say in a negative term would be Toyo tyres dont last as long as the other major players but........do you want quantity or quality?

You want the best performing tyres then soft compound high performance tyres are the way forward i.e. Toyo, Yokohama etc

Toyo's are superb in both wet and dry conditions and in terms of value for money and performance you get....you really cant go wrong!

I had T1R on a Subaru.

I found when they got some heat in them they were totally unpredictable and uncommunicative.  Going into a corner was a lucky dip.

The Honda Accord Euro my daughter drives has Toyo C100+ fitted by the previous owner.  Wet weather grip / braking is really bad.

I'm not a fan.

@brad1.8T - You live in Australia. The OP and all other respondents live in the UK. I'd submit that this is why your experience is different.

Maybe Ken but I've driven in the UK and the roads, road materials, car suspension setup and drivers (UK drivers are much more polite and have better lane discipline) are very similar.  The UK has lower average temperatures but I've driven on the Toyos all year round and it's not stinking hot here all the time (currently autumn and temp range is 10-24)  I used to sell tyres & do wheel alignments at a multi-brand shop and was on the trackside supply  of Goodyear motorsport tyres for a while, so have a bit of experience in tyre testing. I just think that for the money you can do better than Toyo in general and T1R in particular.

Maybe I just drive too fast...
