Suspension Bushes Conundrum

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

My wifes car was in for an MOT and was advised to have the front bushes changed. After a quote of £300 i said i would look at doing it myself.

I ordered the parts specific to the car and when pulling the wheel off, i see that the suspension set up is completely different to what i was told.

The mk2 is supposed to have the same set up as the mk1 apparently but looking at our, it looks more like the mk3 set up.

The fabia is a monte carlo 1.6tdi on a 64 plate but registered in 2015.

I have had an experience like this before with my very late model felicia when a good few of the engine components were octavia parts as the stopped manufacturing the felicia parts for the newly soon to be released fabia mk1.

Does anyone know the parts i now require?

The usual culprit - ie the rear vertical bush, in that picture still looks okay - but is that true?

Can you see any cracking/tearing going on with either of them?

These bushes are the same as used on some older Golfs etc, ebay tends to list a tool for changing them.

Our quote from Ingram Skoda to replace both front suspension wishbone bushes (rear) came in at £202 to supply and fit, ours is a mk2 Fabia vRS.

Part numbers given as

6R0407181B Front Wishbone bushes (press in ones) These may show as Audi parts and come in at £19 for the pair, with 2 hours labour at £75 per hour plus VAT taking total quote to £202.80.

Although we live close to the Skoda dealer in Hamilton we choose to go elsewhere for better service and prices, so far so good.

AMD87 may be able to help you as well, he has a mk2 Fabia Monte Carlo 1.6 tdi (at least on paper) and has probably had to change/ uprated the suspension on his so may know the correct parts and numbers. Apologies if I've mixed things up.

Have a look at this.

Lemforder or Meyle HD wishbones. I didn't think prices were too bad. A lot easier than trying to replace bushes. The lower ball-joint on mine is like yours as a bolt on part. Replace the drop-links while you're at it.
