Hello from Scotland

Featured Replies

Hello from a new member,

I am John, based in rural Scotland. I have a Skoda Octavia estate, an old one on an  '07 plate. A car mechanic relative sourced it for me and suggested I should try it out - instead of my usual bigger 4x4 type vehicles. It has run well for 2 years, efficient on fuel and reasonable comfort. 188,000 miles on clock, no serious problems in my 20k miles of use, just normal servicing and only replacing rear and front suspension springs. So I have been very impressed by the Skoda (bear in mind in my early youth a Skoda was considered to be like a skip on wheels - no offence to anyone - just ignorance of the brand)

We live on a small farm with rough tracks about us and the whole county is littered with potholes, not a real problem for the Octavia, but we needed a second car so I have gone out and bought a Skoda Yeti 2.0 TDI 4x4 SE L Outdoor DSG, a 2016 plate. Test driving it impressed me, seems like it will do the job for us as our new main car with the Octavia as a backup. Looking forward to collecting it from the dealer next week.

Thought I would join this site and get some info about this model of Yeti.

John

Welcome, i am in the not so Sunny South Ayshire just now.

Check the car with the Dealership.

@ 3 years the Haldex is due an Oil change.     (£79 but you need to be sure the Filter is changed.)

The Brake Fluid is due a change @ 3 Years.     (£60)

The DSG is due an Oil Change @ 40,000 miles.  (£189)

This is to the 'Manufacturers Recommendations'  so the Guidelines.    Best they have it done if not already rather than you pay soon.

If it is a 'Skoda Approved Car' with FMDSH and the 12 month Warranty then they should ensure it is Serviced to the 'Manufacturers Recommendations' @ 3 years old.

Welcome from a somewhat overcast South Lanarkshire, with good maintenance the Octavia is run it at the mileage as some of my taxi driving friends will testify.

Skoffski is spot on about the maintenance for the Yeti, even given it is relatively new it's important that the finer details of what should be done at the main dealer has been done. That said, if you've bought from Ingrams down in Ayr I'm fairly confident if it's not already been done they will mention it, as happened to us a couple of weeks ago when it came to brake fluid change. Our car was in to have the drivers door wiring loom changed over, in addition to carrying out that work they carried out a free vehicle inspection that highlighted to us (verbally from the technician and with video to prove as well) that we had a couple of jobs needing doing urgently and another couple to recheck in the next 3 to 6 months. When handing the car back over and running through what had been done they also noted they couldn't find a record of brake fluid change at 3 years old then every 2 years thereafter. So it gives me confidence that they're thorough in their work.

And that in itself highlighted another wee problem. They wouldn't have a record of the one carried out at 5 years as it was done independently of the Skoda network, but they should have had a record of the 3 year one carried out by our old friends Parks in Hamilton.

Anyway, welcome to the forum and good luck with your new motor, its a cracker.

hello Skoffski, thanks for that information. The Yeti is coming from Ingram Skoda in Ayr and they say they will service it, two new tyres on front, full tank of fuel and a years warranty. I did check with Ingram that the brake fluid would be changed in the service, which was affirmed but did not know of others. Do I assume that they will do these others (Haldex? & DG) or would it be best to ask - and I have to trust that they would do it. On other cars that I have had serviced (with other garages) when even had a basic oil change in a service I would check the oil to see if clean before leaving garage, but thats about all I can do and hope they have done the rest....

It said on an autotrader advert Manufacturer aprroved - 1 year warranty on dealer website company statement about used cars  "every single used car that we sell from a franchise site will get a comprehensive multi point check prior to sale that is to ensure that the industry leading warranty starts with a healthy car fully prepared for you."

So hope all that needs to be done will be done before collection.

Hello and thanks - That is reassuring to hear what you said Sittingbull, the car is from Ingrams in Ayr.
