VIN number

Featured Replies

How can I tell from the VIN if my cars a 95ps or 110ps. My cars arrived and I ordered a 95ps but got the Conformation of Registration form to sign and it states a 110ps! If so, someone has made an error in my favour. Not seen the car as it's at the dealers compound.

I'd get the dealer to check the sticker in the boot. You can't insure it without knowing which it is.

Yes, but if it is a 110ps then they've undercharged me! I've tried online VIN decoders but non work, one said it's got 170hp!!!

@BarryG - You can't; As peter indicates, you need to look at the "Options" sitcker under the boot mat.

Ok thanks for that. I've asked Skoda UK on Facebook to check. If it's the more powerful engine do I fess up!?

Were you replying to me or Ken there, I suspect Ken?

The decoder I've linked just above has given lots of folk on here their full car data, from VIN alone, so it is indeed possible; although usually only through official VW group channels.  Quite how they've got access and are giving it out freely, I don't know.

Try this one if you haven't already, it should give you the full car data: https://carinfo.kiev.ua/cars/vin/skoda

Tried mine in this, can't get past the captcha. Seems to have a problem.

That site is broke! I remember that you used to be able to identify engine from a chassis number.

You can; the fifth digit encodes the engine type. I've got the decodes for mk1 Fabia, but they'll obviously differ from mk2 and mk3 ones.

Soooo... if you post what the fifth digit is, someone with a same fifth digit may be able to tell you what you have coming?

All sorted, seems I'm getting a 110ps for a reason unknown to mankind! Cool.

Now that's a nice bonus. Saves having it remapped later.

Pick up after my holiday, looking forward to seeing it after the wait.

Obviously make sure your insurance and V5C details are all in line with what the car actually is, don't just assume the registration database is correct...
