Starting issue

Featured Replies

I've been having issues recently with my Kodiaq not starting straight away. It sometimes takes 6 or 7 turns before it fires. Sometimes it just doesn't start at all.

Called Skoda Assist out today who sent an AA guy out. He initially assumed it would be the battery as he's been to quite a few 2.0TDI units with knackered batteries (including his own van).

Turns out it wasn't that and there's a fault with the glow plugs. He was a bit confused as apperantly modern diesels don't tend to use glow plugs to start especially as it had already been driven.

Ive got to take it into skodo tomorrow to see what the fault is so I'll update this when I find out.

Least I've finally got a fault code as it's been doing this for ages with no codes.

Anyone else had any similar issues?

What's the fault code?

I didn't get the code unfortunately. I can't ready it with my basic scanner as there no eml on.

It's been with the dealer in Exeter since Tuesday and they rang yesterday to say its a faulty battery. They've ordered a new one which will hopefully be here today. Fingers crossed that solves the issue.

I can only assume that the faulty battery has somehow thrown up a fault with the glow plugs

I'm surprised the AA patrol, especially given his experience of the the MOLL battery issues on early Kodiaq's wasn't aware that a failing battery often results in spurious fault codes and dash warning lights.

If the battery wasn't able to support the power demands of the glow plugs and / or starter motor then it stands to reason they're going to flag up on his fault code reader.

It's also a shame that the dealer has taken almost a week to diagnose and replace a battery, you'd hope they'd keep a few in stock, especially given that its a relatively wide scale problem, and that the initial shortage of batteries is well behind us.

Hey ho, hopefully they put you in a decent courtesy / hire car!

Yeah I'm surprised he didn't really but there we go.

Well it takes a while for stuff to filter down here to the south west!

They did say a few customers have had to wait upto 3 weeks so hopefully I won't be that long lol.

I've got a basic Occy estate so it's not too bad. It's a DSG so that's a bonus.

In that case, it sounds like the shortage of replacement batteries is still very much with us!

Can't you use the MG TF next to it instead!?

Ha, that's the weekend car! It's in need of a new exhaust before it goes out too far from the house.

Got the kadiaq back this afternoon. All seems good. I've not had a look yet to see what make of battery they have put in its place.

Hopefully it's a Varta or Banner.

It is indeed a Varta battery.

You should never have had the problem, though the Varta is at least a small silver lining! Its a lot better than what you had.
