Donkey 2 - The Exclusive Trundler

Featured Replies

So, my second Octy... after a 2 1/2 yr mistake with an Insignia detailed else where.

1 month into ownership of Donkey 2 its time for a thread, much like the Gerhardt thread its not so much a project as an ownership log.

The Donkey...

Its a 1.6 diesel, 105bhp, 2013 in "Exclusive" trim. Which really means "minor upgraded Elegance" - plenty stuff and 1/2 leather interior

136k km on the clock.

For €10,400 Came with a full service, full set of new tyres, a rear brake caliper, rear discs and all pads replaced, timing belt and water pump done.

My first month's ownership has been a mix. I collected it on a Thursday, drove to the office on friday, and then the airport where it stayed parked for 10days on the Sunday. Since then its been town and med distance drives.

Am I happy? Yes.

Fuel consumption indicated and calculated are matching at about 5.5-5.6l/100km, Or 50-51mpg. This is approx 20% better than the Insignia on diesel. Essentially, both the octy and insignia will do about 950km on a full tank, but... the insignias fuel tank holds an extra 10litres of fuel... interesting when one considers the the octy is a 5speed manual and the Siggy was a 6 speed... road noise etc isnt any higher than the insignia was, possibly even quiter as the siggy was on 18" alloys vs 16s on Donkey 2.

Yes, the octy is down on power, but... from logging the bhp usage in the insignia (on torque pro) even doing...a speed... i never got a log value above 120bhp, out of the 160 "available" so, what was all the extra power doing?? Not much, and was unusable. Torque is lower too, but so is the kerb weight now, so it all balances out for the most part that theres enough for any overtake i wouldve done in the insignia. It also feels a lot less fragile than the insignia.. everything broke on that thing..

First mod planned soon though, extra 10bhp on the way - brisky retro stickers to go on when i decide where :)

i did discover during fitting them though, i think oassenger side front window regulator might be starting to let go, it took a few goes to get the window back up past half way, and there was definite noise like a steel wire twanging under waaay too much tension. hopefully it just got caught on itself and has sorted itself back out... either way, that window is staying closed until i can get it checked properly.

also, yeah, you can see all the pollen gathered on the windscreen. any wonder my sinuses are gunky for the last 6 weeks!!
