Immobilizer - How do I Know There is One?

Featured Replies

It's time to renew the insurance on the 2002 Octavia. When I search for insurance on the net some forms ask if an immobilizer is fitted and I simply don't know. Is there a way to find out?

Pretty sure it's standard equipment.

Do you have a key that is not a fob, ie without immobiliser chip inside, assuming you have remote central locking?

If so, start the car with this key. It should either not start or cut out shortly after starting iirc.

Transponder immobiliser will be standard equipment before this build year.

An immobiliser was a standard requirement for any new UK car from around 1995, So all UK/EU Octy's will have a "Thatcham class 2" fitted as standard

Compulsory on 'new cars' in the UK since 1998.

Thanks for your help on this fellas. At least I know I can fill the insurance form in correctly. Don't want to give them an excuse from wriggling out of a claim (hopefully I won't need to).
