Which fuse to use for Dashcam only on with the ignition?

Featured Replies

Hello wise people of Briskoda! I have a shiny new dashcam that I want to fit to a cigarette lighter adapter that only gets power when the ignition is on. I have the piggy back fuse and the lighter adapter but I need to know which fuse will give me the power-only-on-with-ignition. I have a Mk 2 superb Elegance 2013 pre-face lift, it's not got the upgraded sound system, or a rear windscreen wiper,  just a standard Elegance. I'm thinking of fuse 48 as it's listed as a "Preparation for aftermarket stereo" in the manual which seems like what I'm after.  Happy to answer any details you need to help me in my quest.

Thank you in advance.

If you have a multimeter, probe the empty slots until you find one that goes live with ignition. Power supply is at the top of the slot.

Terminal 30 is battery live, Terminal 15 is ignition live, Terminal 75 is accessory live. Take your pick. The white line is the load side of the fuse, the upper coloured line is the type of feed input for the SC fusebox on the end of the dash.

7,8 or 9 would do you just fine.

Many thanks to you all, you are gentlemen and scholars! I'll report back once I've fitted it.

Victory is mine! Nice little quad socket USB cigarette lighter tucked in with the fuses attached to 45. All powers up nicely when I turn the ignition on. Thanks again wizards of Briskoda!

Resurrecting a long solved thread to ask for your assistance again! I'm now trying to upgrade the mod I made as detailed above to handle recharging a solar battery (only when the car is running). I originally used slot 45 with a 5 amp fuse which works great with the dash cam but not the solar battery which draws too much power and blows the fuse. Would it be safe to try moving the mod to slot 7, 8 or 9 with a 10amp fuse? Is this dangerous? I'm lead to believe that standard cigarette adapter ports have a 10 amp fuse, is that correct? Really don't want to risk any damage to the car or create a fire hazard! Thank you in advance for any and all assistance you can provide.
