Karoq service intervals and requirements

Featured Replies

Hello. Is there a way for me to find out details on service intervals and requirements. I tend to carry out my own servicing and want to know what is required in first 4 years or 40,000 miles. Thank you in advance.

Welcome.

You will be needing any Software Updates or Enhancements.  Done at main dealers. Body Inspection as well on the system. For paint Corrosion Warranty.

What is it, petrol or diesel, Manual or auto, 7 speed dry or 7 speed wet DSG?

Depends what you want as Main Dealers do not do much.

So go Fixed Oil & filter services every 10,000 (9,400) miles / 372 days, or the Flexible / variable and 18,000-20,000 miles / 24 months.

http://volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/regimes.

Pollen filter every 2 years or sooner.

Haldex at 3 years,  DSG @ 40,000 miles or not if a DQ200.

Brake fluid at 3 years.

Spark Plugs at 40,000 miles or sooner, or Fuel Filter.

Looking and seeing and doing what is needed as your use might require.

This type of thing.

Thank you for the detailed reply. It will be the 1.5l Petrol 6 speed manual. I'll do most of the servicing myself as it's significantly cheaper this way.

Only issue I forsee would be the software updates. I assume these would be for the infortaninment system?

OK to use the OEM parts and fluids, but unless you work in a VAT registered establishment that might or might not be a Motor Engineers / Garage then you best check out the Warranty implications of DIY servicing during the Manufacturers warranty.

It only needs a Dealership oil & filter change at 20,000 miles and another at 40,000 miles to meet the 'Manufacturers Service Recommendations.

That is with Long Life oil,  so VW504/507 or VW508/509 if youy want.

*Go Independent dealership / garage if you want, you get VW Specialists with licenced equipment that can use the VW system and put the Service Record on, and they get the TPI's, can do Warranty work etc.*

No need for the Rip Off Major Service cost if under 3 year old.

Re Software Updates that can be for anything, but it might even be for a 1.5 TSI EVO.

But then if the car runs fine you might want to 'decline' any Engine ECU updates.

Thank you for the very detailed reply. I'll check warranty implications with the delaership regarding DIY servicing. If it has an impact I'll just cough up for servicing during the warranty period as it's not worth voiding this.

Dealership should give a Warranty Booklet.

But the T&C's and exclusions are here.

Thank you.

Thank you very much for information!

We got a 2 year service package for £159 which I feel is very reasonable considering at a bare minimum bits going to include oil and oil filter changes while not harming our warranty, which would be the case if I did it myself.

@skingun

What is that £159 getting you, is it an Interim / fixed service @ 9,400 / 10,000 miles / 372 days so Oil & Filter change and another but called a major service a year later

including a Pollen filter.

So 2 Oil & Filter changes and inspections and road tests, free wash and vacuums for £159?

  • Author

Don't know about wash and vacuuum, but it covers all servicing required for 2 years.

@skingun

I would be checking then if that is with the car left on Variable / Flexible servicing with 1 service @ 20,000 miles / 24 months & them using VW508/509 oil.

Or if 2 services, 1 each year. (Also using VW508/509 0w 20 FS lV as now gets used from the factory and not being cheap skates and VW 504/507.)

If you are not doing high annual miles i would want Fixed Servicing set at the PDI and a service each year or sooner.

I will check. Thank you for the tip.

Skoda used to promote their service plans as '2 years free servicing', which meant two very different things depending on if the car is set to fixed or variable service intervals.

They've now changed this to '2 free services' which means you always get two oil and oil filter changes regardless.

As mentioned, DIY servicing outside of a VAT registered garage and/or using non-genuine parts will void your three year Skoda UK and dealer supported warranty.

Also, the software updates extend much further than the infotainment system. Cars are much more complex that they used to be. Almost every function on the car, including those under the bonnet are controlled electronically. Main dealer servicing for the software and firmware updates alones would be worth it.

You (or at least I am) might be surprised just how many software updates Skoda publish, especially on new models such as the Karoq.

Its becoming increasingly obvious to me that early adopters (i.e. you and me) are performing the testing roles on new cars, much more than Skoda's development team!

I've checked with the dealer at we get 2 services. First at 1 year or 10,000 miles and the second at 20,000 miles or 2 years. Seeing as we are unlikely to do more than 8,000 miles per year this works well for us.

The first service is just oil and filter change. The second includes a bit more such as replacement pollen filter etc.

For £159 this is excellent value.

It should not just be a 'Oil & Filter Service though', that would be cheeky.

It should be an 'Interim Service'.

Oil / Filter / Sump plugs might be the parts used.

Health Check / Fluid Check and top up if required, diagnostics, road test, Software / Update Enhancements should be all part of the 1st Service.

Also a Body Inspection.

So the same again a year later and a Pollen Filter, AC Check etc.

£159 for getting 2 services is good if you are not getting them free.

We're not getting them free but we've already had a health chunk of £ knocked off the list price by going through Carwow.

You do not get free servicing on a new car, unless you take up their pcp package.

I'm not sure I said that you did?

Hi - I have an automatic Karoq SE L TSI 1.5 petrol that's just over 3 years old with 22k miles done. The vehicle service status shows only an oil change is due and an inspection in 11k miles or 1 year from now.

Is there any point in paying for a service plan until an inspection is due - ie can I just take it to a local garage to have the oil changed and then do a service in a year?

thanks very much

Welcome to the forum.

It is not only an Oil Change that is due @ 3 years.    What the Screen in the car shows is not correct really these days.

Services are now called Oil & Inspection Services by Skoda UK.

@ 3 years as well as an 'Oil & Inspection Service' you might want the Brake Fluid Changed or at least checked for H20 content.

The car's manufacturers warranty runs out at 3 years unless you have it extended.

You want any warranty work done, and maybe the MOT done in the month before the car is 3 years old.

Was the Pollen filter changed or even looked at last year?

Thanks so much for the speedy reply. I bought the car second-hand in April 2021 and it's had the following work done previously:

April 2019 at 8k miles

- eVHC

- 1st year service which included an oil change, oil filter, plug and washer

July 2020 at 15k miles

- minor service with pollen filter and oil change, oil filter, plug and washer

So sounds like I should book an Oil & Inspection Service with Brake Fluid changed? And is it best to get that done via the official Skoda servicing link? Sorry all a bit new to me.

thanks again

And sorry should I also add the Extended Scope or not needed at this point?

A good tech or mechanic will check the brake fluid and not just change it because of manufacturers recommendations.   Things like looking at the air filter and cleaning or replacing is also about location location location and your cars use.   Maybe after this service look for a good Independent and do not throw money Skoda main dealers way of a low mileage car.  You need servicing to suit you not then.
