Windscreen replacement

Featured Replies

I was thinking about claiming on my insurance (excess policy) and having the screen replaced as it's got a fair bit of chipping/rash which is quite evident now in the sun and also a large stone chip which has a little crack coming out of it which hasn't moved since it happened

Anyone got any experience on having them changed or cleaned up if possible ?

Trying to get info ahead on questions I might get asked, is it tinted, rain and light sensors etc.

I've been putting mine off for a few years now to be honest..............More to the hassle rather than cost of the excess, as you say.

It has wiper scratches on it and quite annoying in low sun. Luckily not noticeable that often.

I read that fitters had turned up and removed glass only to find the sensor bit in the wrong place.

I believe there are two slightly differing positions for this and to measure and at least check this when the fitter arrives ie before the glass is removed.

They may? be more aware of this issue now though and hopefully you will get correct glass first time.

I've had mine replaced twice since owning the car, in both cases I was asked if it had a rain sensor but that was about it. Never had the issue with the wrong type being sent.

However, I did request OE glass in both cases which might have helped :)

Do you guys know if the screen has a tint to it ?

Tried polishing the glass with a light cutting compound all that did was make them more evident as the glass that isn't chipped was crystal then.
