That Horn Again! ..... Replace with Twin Horns

Featured Replies

I bought a pair of horns to replace the pathetic thing on my Monte Carlo.

1st. obstacle it is supplied with a relay, where the ecky thump does this go.

2nd obstacle does the whole front have to come off.

I wonder if I could get at it with the car on ramps.

I've never done this upgrade properly, only needed to do it twice, and that was on  Ford Fiestas and I was bad/stupid enough to link the new horn to the original.

In your case, I'd guess that the relay coil gets connected to the first fan - and a new fused supply gets connected to the incoming supply to the relay switching contact, doing it that way means that the car's wiring is not being over stressed as in the bad/stupid way I wired the Fiesta one on two cars!

I came across this, in my search for the grail;

https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/310051-horn-wire/

I can't explain when I mentioned "fan" when it should have been "horn"!

Anyway, so after reading that I'd still think that using a suitable relay - though check that your relay has a built in diode across its coil - would work and providing a new fused feed for the 2nd horn, using a new feed from the "switching function" will give the car better diagnostic capability if that 2nd horn failed - but does that bother you as you are only retro fitting this in a way that does not damage the car (diode across the coil) and maybe cause a fire risk (adding a new fused feed)?

Just wondering - would the citigo horn fit the fabia?

On my Citigo the horn is loud, two-tone, masculine with a bit of oomph!

The fabia horn is like... pfft...meh!

I took my car to the dealer and thought I would ask them to change my horn,

they were bemused and tried it out against the citigo horn, the citigo horn won!

They didn't, no fault but were going to think about it.

@gumdrop   How often are you warning other road users you are there with your horn?

People on foot or on bikes will hear your horn just fine if they are so close they need your startling them with a horn.

Its the people that drift at motorway speeds in or out of their lane towards you that need the occasional sharp reminder to "wake up"

The horn as fitted, I have found to be ineffectual. although It is fine in a town environment.

*I only warn if required, I don't do it for fun.

If everyone was to be blowing horns in that situation what a place it would be.

I never use a horn except when some nutter is using theirs then i let them know who can pee the highest.

Same with those that think that Full Beam on is a get out of my way.  They get their Auto Wiper put on.

For motorway lane drifters (and general amusement) you need one of these
