Got my Fabia

Featured Replies

I read every word, remember all the positive posts, fanboy stuff, then a few years later a few years pass and you see the light.

Poor reliability is maybe in small numbers, but lets be honest, there can be issues, and eventually you admit to them, VW do not though.

You clearly remember wrong Skoffski, as you often seem to do. The key response to what you said above is that years have gone by since I first joined this excellent site. At that time (and pretty much now too) you were taking every opportunity to bash Skoda, including anyone that seemed to like them, and make it sound as though every Skoda model had big issues. They didn't, as me and dozens of others on here told you. 12 years ago Skoda were brilliant cars, that's when I bought my first one. I very definitely sang their praises because they were generally ahead of the pack in terms of quality, as we all know, at least those of us in the business. Very definitely problems started arising a few years back which you will remember I posted about. I'm sure you haven't forgotten have you. It's just that you often need to twist things around to...well, be difficult with folks.  That's why it's so awkward to have any sort of meaningful discussion with you. Shame really, as I quite like you deep down even though you seem to always have an agenda going on in the background. Why don't we meet up for a proper discussion next time I'm in Scotland? I'll even come in a C4 Cactus which is going to be for sale very soon. It's a '68' plate so not the older one you initially had in mind, but this one is going at a brilliant price if you are interested.

I just don't tell everyone that all will be well because i know a taxi driver or 3 that gets high miles.

I don't pretend all is well with Customer Services, just make people aware of potential issues, and the reality.

Telling people that the Service History can easily be checked and how good dealerships are is good stuff, but sadly that is not how it is with all Dealerships.

Just remember those posts and threads you made, they are not helpful to those getting landed with lemons and lied to or lead up the garden path.

Barry, congratulations on your new car. You'll have lots of fun in it I'm sure. The estate version is particularly useful. Please don't take too much notice of the spate between Skoffski & I. It's been happening on & off for years, and not just with me. He gets a bit cross sometimes and has been banned for it. Not quite sure what's up there.

Post often with your exploits and good luck.

Haha, I don't get offended or bothered by spats! I've had six new Skodas, apart from a gearbox issue on my 16 plate they've all been excellent cars. Mines just about to hit 1000 miles, so I can start to have fun.

As with all car purchases. The simplest cars tend to be the most reliable.

Oh good! My first two new ones were also very good indeed. No problems and I kept them for a few years each. It was only my last two new Mk3's that caused me grief. I do like the colour of your new one.

Only 1,000? ;) I'm 0.9 miles away from 4,000!

I've only had it 3 weeks and I've a second car! I'm loving the colour, in bright sunlight it looks great. Also overall I find it more fun than the Seat I had for just over a year. Hope this one turns out to be a good one.

You're excused then! :D I've found mine great over the 4k miles so far. Keep up the good work!

A: as you will remember (or apparently not!) I am buddies with a couple of taxi firms here in North Essex one of whom has a fleet of 16 Skoda taxis, half of which are Skoda Fabia Estates with the auto dsg boxes. Mileages are huge on those cars now as previously stated in my actual posts. In fact you didn't even believe there were any Fabia Mk3's with very high miles until you actually went and checked and found it to be true. You actually admitted for once you were wrong.

A: as you will know from my numerous posts over the last near 12 years I don't pretend anything either. I don't spend all my time at my computer living my life vicariously through google either as you seem to do. That's the best way to get a very very skewed view of the reality of the industry, very much like you appear to have. I actually go out and spend time in dealerships, in workshops and actually strip engines and gearboxes. I speak with customers and manufacturers just like I've done during my 33 years in the industry. It's amazing what you learn by doing that. You see the issues for yourself instead of through someone else's' eyes.

A: we don't disagree here do we. I refer you to many of my post about this over the last near 12 years. But I will say that many folks on here have told me they cannot get their cars service history and I've been able to advise them on how to get it.  Mostly they have then gone on to get it. It's just they don't ask the right questions and often don't ask the right person. Of course, as I've previously pointed out it's more difficult if dealing with cars bought from non franchised dealers that may be older.

A: On this I've no idea what you are talking about. George, you are just being silly!

Q: Are you interested in the C4 Cactus on the 68 plate do you think? I can get price soon. It is unmarked in white with auto box, latest shape with all the trimmings. It will have approx 19,000 miles on the clock when it goes, in about two months. Just say if you want to see it. I'm coming to Newcastle in a couple of weeks. I can easily take it into Scotland as long as you are not far North coast. I have a meeting and possibly a job to carry out. If I have to do the job I may not be able to bring the C4 at that time as my kit won't all go in it. I use an Audi A4 estate for that. Just let me know. We can have lunch and a chat.
