2012 4x4 140hp Vibration over approx 65mph.

Featured Replies

Hi folks.

I've recently noticed a vibration when accelerating over approx 65mph.  It can be felt through the car, not just the steering wheel.  It happens in any gear, and the harder the acceleration, the stronger the vibration.

If I dip the clutch, the vibration reduces lots, but can still be felt ever so slightly.  Same if I knock it out of gear.

I dont get any vibration at lower speeds, regardless of gear or how hard I'm accelerating.

The wheels were rebalanced about 1500 miles ago.

Anyone got any ideas as to where to start looking?  DMF?  Wheel balance again?  Driveshaft perhaps? Bearings?

Cheers

Andy.

The rubber guibo coupling perhaps.

DMF?

I thought wheel balance, then I thought that wheel balance is directly related to road speed and totally independent of throttle and brakes.

That's the coupling to the rear driveshaft isn't it?  When I had a brake fluid change about 6 months ago, the Skoda place did a full inspection of the vehicle, and noted that this was okay.  I guess it could have deteriorated in the last six months though.

I hope not.  I had that replaced a couple of years ago, after the pressure plate crapped itself and spat bits of metal out.  Had to get the clutch, clutch slave cylinder and DMF replaced then.

1,500 miles and a balance weight can be off a wheel again.  Check the simple and cheapest things first.

Tyres inner walls need checked for bulges as well as outer.

Di you ever do the Brake Disc Conversion?

That's basically what I thought, but the confusing thing was the fact it almost disappears when backing off the throttle.

I guess it's back to a garage for an inspection and a wheel rebalance, and if that doesn't solve it, investigate more!  I'm half tempted to get the wheels off completely, and get them refurbed to eliminate the corrosion that is creeping under the lacquer on the wheels.  Diamond turned wheels are a pain....

oh and @Skoffski, yes, the brake disc conversion was done.  Much better stopping power, especially when fully loaded...

Engine mounts in good condition and actually bolted up correctly?.

I assume so, but will add it to the list for the garage to check!  Or is it an easy DIY check?

Everything is a pita these days.

A hoist and removal of the ‘tray’ is the hardest part.

(I’m wondering if they forgot to attach/tighten the bolts.....top and bottom both sides after the clutch job)
