One<> two USB in front by gear lever linked to Amundsen <> Columbus ?

Featured Replies

I've gotten a '19 Kodiaq with Amundsen navigation and only one USB connector in the front.  I would like to have the phone by the A column and the cable hidden away.

Talking with an entusiast that do retrofitting I've been told that I can not get more than one USB connected to the Amundsen. So if i wants a hidden cable to the phone i'll need to relocate the center one that i have.

Is he correct or is there a workaround ?

The Amundsen on the Kodiaq here in the UK is rare, most UK-spec models of the Kodiaq get the Columbus.

Even with the Columbus, Skoda UK decided only to specify UK cars with one USB port in the front.

As a result there have been numerous threads on whether or not it's possible to retrofit the 'European' two-port USB panel in UK cars, but up to now, no one has tried it.

I'm not sure if I'm understanding correctly what you're asking and I don't know what you mean by the A column, but would buying a  USB splitter cable do the trick       https://www.amazon.co.uk/TOOGOO-Female-Splitter-Verteiler-Adapter/dp/B071G81FYJ/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_23_lp_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=YJJZ8YEYGPY3ZCGK8PZ9   something like this one ?

There are several variations on Amazon.

Sorry, I'm not sure my link isn't working but I'm sure you'll understand what I meanhttps://www.amazon.co.uk/TOOGOO-Female-Splitter-Verteiler-Adapter/dp/B071G81FYJ/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_23_lp_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=YJJZ8YEYGPY3ZCGK8PZ9

I have two goals

I searched a bit further and it seems that at least on the Columbus (Discovery Media Pro) you can fit a hidden USB hub and then have 2 or 3 USB connections to it.

5G0-035-953-C 2 way USB HUB
5G0-035-953-D 3 way, otherwise the same

But i've NOT been able to confirm that it will also works with the Amundsen

On my previous cars i've only had to consider charging. The first 3 pictures are from the Citigo and the last one from the Superb. From the drivers seat they cables are almost hidden away. The power is just drawn with a piggyback fuse.

Last is the Kodiaq with the phone in a center holder.  It blocks some of the buttons and the corner of the screen. Especially for my wife. I also prefer the corner position as in previouss.

Why would you do that when the car has a massive touch screen, and built in Android Auto / CarPlay that works really well?

The days of ugly Brodit brackets and wires hanging all over the dash have thankfully been eliminated with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

I understand the desire for multiple USB ports, but I'm at a loss as to why anything else would be needed?

With it attached to the A pillar, I would also be concerned about the curtain airbag firing a heavy phone into my head during a crash.

Also me - I am at a loss as to why you need to do this.

For phone only - you can charge in the box next to the USB infront of the gear lever and use Android Auto / Apple Car Play or Bluetooth.

For Waze or other apps - again Apple Car Play...

Why do you need the phone there.... to entise you to answer emails when your driving?

As Silver said - the Kodiaq does away with the need for the phone holder now..

Bascially 3 reasons

  1. I want the phone within sight. Not everything is easier on Android Auto. I usually drive with it showing GPS speed to know my exact speed *(i use Speedview) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.codesector.speedview.free&hl=da But occaionally i also use a speed camera warning app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nu.fartkontrol.app)
  2. My phones does not fit in the charge box. Both me and my wife has oneplus 3t's and with the cable it does not fit. So since it needs to be connected to the single USB in front the only place to store it is in the big box between the seats or with the glove compartment open
  3. I have to disconnect the USB cable to close the tray. That won't happen so the cable box is useless for item that may pose a theft risk if visible. Ie keys, creditcard/fuelcards

*Swicting between diferent cars and a motorcycle a can't remember or calculate how much they are off. Since speeding 30% cause points on the license so i don't want to be caugt doing 105km/h on an empty road, when 104km/h is just a fine. The otherway why only drive 97km/h when the fine for 104km/h is the same ....

** I don't even use my phone for email.  And android is pretty good at composing a text or messenger message with voice command

*** The airbag is not that low (almost behind the steering wheel), so not concerned about the safety

**** I agree that cables are to be hidden and i can live with the mess in the other cars.  At the moment the Kodiaq is to messy with the cable across the dash.

I might just relocate the original usb to behind the dash and fit a USB charge only instead.

Android Auto and Waze works really well. Waze shows the speed in the bottom left hand corner...

If you're plugging your phone into the USB anyway, then you don't need to use the charge box in-front of the gear lever, pop it into the area in front of the central arm rest instead?

Hi majland

Where you ever able to add an USB. Personally I would like an extra hidden USB to connect an AAWireless dongle, so I am very interested how you resolved this.
