I'm new but on my second VRS and it is a very very early mk3 registered June 2013, purchased used in September 14. Never seen another 13 plate one on the road, earliest i've seen are 63 plates!

My car has developed a strong odour coming through the air vents from the engine bay. My mechanic friend and I have had a look and he is unsure what to make of it.

The odour is strongest by the manifold and beneath this are the pipes leading off of the 'fuel distributor rail'. There is some discolouration on the fuel rail on the first port on the left side, but the rest of the rail is clean.

The fuel pump seems fine, but clearly it's a big job to dismantle everything to rectify. 

 

Has anyone encountered anything similar and if so what was required to rectify it?

 

One particular well known trade parts Business has been extremely unhelpful as I requested a diagram of the engine/parts and all they want to do is sell us a part that is non returnable! Um, I am not buying anything until I know it is the actual part/parts I need!

 

Anyway, i'd appreciate some help and guidance before I get my mechanic mate to do anything too involved!
