Bike rack and wiring to power lights

Featured Replies

Hi folks, first time poster, 2+ years Fabia owner.

We have recently started cycling with our toddler and need to carry 2 adult bikes on the outside of the car. Have borrowed a strap on boot-mounted one, but it blocks the number plate and lights (and probably isn't ideal for longer journeys). If I do persevere with this option how do I plug a lighting board into the car? I can't actually find the towing mounting recess in the rear bumper (as per the manual) so I assume I don't have this?

If dealing with a lighting board is a faff (I don't really want to be paying for fitting - we probably won't be going out that often), what other options would people recommend? A high mounted boot rack, or something on the roof?

Cheers,

James

Welcome.

I have used a cheap universal rack to carry bikes with the wheels off & no Light Board used, or kids bikes / BMX size.

Not pretty and bikes need well tied / fastened on up high.

Bottom of rack set to not be pressing too hard on the bumper , rear glass and not pulling too hard on the spoiler.

(rear wiper still needed removing.  or tape the switch so you do not put it on, but then some cars wipe the rear as you reverse with front wiper on..)

I won't bore you with legalities such as blocking off/obscuring the rear lights, along with the registration plate as so many people do it and seem to get away with it...

It is a major bugbear of mine, though. Along with those who think its ok to put the front numberplate inside the car, on the dashboard.

"Oh, the average speed camera/Congestion/Ulez camera can't read that, Officer-I did not know that... I will pop out and buy a set of fixing screws later today"!

It ALWAYS seems to be the driver who wants to jump the lights or cut you up or get abusive, too!🙈🙉🙊

(Tongue in cheek, here, not meant to be personal abuse. Someone will always take offence.)

Quite - I'm not planning on breaking the law, hence my issue with the boot-mounted rack I have access to!
