Hi there, I would like to wire in my PS2 car adapter directly into the car wiring (without using the lighter socket). Is it just a matter of cutting the cable (on the lighter side of the power adapter) and wiring direclty to the 12V and earth or are there other gubbins involved in the lighter socket?

No, no other gubbins. Just make sure you don't draw too much current through the PS2 adapter + lighter, and blow the fuse.

Cheers for the info, I'm now thinking of drawing straight from the 12Volt feed to the stereo (red wire) do you think this would draw too much current (i.e. running mfd and ps2 slim from same 12V wire)?

If you are not drawing too much power use the 12v,

If you are drawing a lot I wouldn't go from stereo as then you have to make sure the headunit and ps2 combined don't pop a fuse.

If the intention is to pull a fair bit of power either get a fused adapter for fag lighter socket, or run a dedicated 12v from the battery with appropriate fuse and cable.
