Fuel Cap No open

Featured Replies

Hi guys . happy with the car  (2014 Black  CR170 DSG Elegance SUPERB  saloon )

but

every now and then when I go to fill up with diesel the filler cap cover appears to be locked

keys in ignition or out may affect this , it has happened twice now and I am not sure

what the sequence of events are that surround this event.

all I know is the garage is usually full of people waiting and the cover (push to open) does not move

mad panic ensues and keys in out key on off of the ignition and suddenly there is a click and it

unlocks itself.

I cannot find anything in the manual ( it was late last night) to tell me about the locking filler cap cover

opening and there is no internal switch that I aware of. our old MK one always opened to the touch

I am little worried about the odd things the car does. If we open the car normally the drivers seat

stays in the last selected position we had yesterday. If I unlock the car and open the rear hatch manually

the car then sets the seat to my wife's setting.

either spooky or there is some stuff I need to learn.

I understand the seat fob can be coded to the seat settings.  but it seems to randomly do things which

worries me

should I be worried , do I have ghost settings ? or am I just stupid :crying:

it is not kessy . and not electric boot opening. just unlock. everything is set to unlock on opening.

This is a common issue: the push pin that holds the flap shut gets stiff in its housing and the motor can't pull the pin out of it to unlock. Repeatedly cycling the lock while applying varying amounts of pressure to the flap will get it to unlock (I often resorted to a few well placed thumps as well).

The fix is simple enough: spray some oil/grease onto the push pin and work it in and out a few times. I used some spray lithium grease on mine the last time. I had previously tried PTFE grease (from a tube) but it dried in and eventually made the problem worse.

The thing with the seats doing their own thing comes down to the fact that the seat memory is also tied to the keys: you can match individual keys to individual seat memory settings. The full version of sorting out seat & mirror memory with keys is as follows:

  1. Set the seat to your preferred settings.
  2. With the gearshift in neutral, set both side mirror positions to where you want them to be.
  3. With the gearshift in reverse (easiest with engine off and ignition on), set the passenger side mirror to where you want it to be when reversing; when you're done leave the mirror selector in the 'L' position ('R' if you're in a LHD country).
  4. Press the 'Set' button on the seat and then press and hold the button for the memory setting you want to use until you hear the ding from the dash.
  5. Remove the key from the ignition and press the unlock button (the door needs to be closed for this): you should hear another ding from the dash indicating that the key is now paired to that memory setting.
  6. Repeat this for the second key.

thanks for that Chimaera . will have a play with the lube

we have deliberately not adjusted the keys to our settings as we are both in

and out of the car alternatively during the day and use the same key.

I think I will try programming  the key  and report back

One other thing to note about the seat positioning behaviour is that when the car is unlocked with a particular key it will automatically set the seat and mirrors to the position linked to that key.

yes I get that.  this one does not move until I open the rear hatch. if I don't open it

the seat does not move.
