strange problem with the windows

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a Skoda Fabia 1.2 Petrol 2008,

When I brought the car both driver and passager windows were working fine without any issues, after a while the windows stop working, so I have checked the fuses which were fine then I have checked the driver cable and I found out that some cables were broken, so then I replaced the cable with a new cable using the serial no from the old cable.

The windows still didn't work on both sides.

Then I replaced the driver side motor as someone told me it might be the relay inside of the motor, that still didn't fix the issue.

Then someone else told me might be the konfort computer which I have also changed, still not working.

I have changed

Drivers side, cable + motor

Konfort computer + fuses

Still doesn't work.

The only I found out this works is as below;

Now if put the key inside the door and keep the key in the opening position both windows are going down, if I turn the key to lock position both windows are going up.

Now if I remove the fuse from the passager side then the driver window works fine for 30 minutes after that it stops working the only way to make it work is to stop the car wait 30 minutes and then it will work again for 30 minutes which is not a solution.

I have checked the passager side to make sure the cable is not broken which is not.

Does anyone have any clues what might cause the windows not to work?

Thanks.

Have you changed the passenger side motor?

No, I have not changed that, The cable on the passager side is fine, the motor works fine if I use the key, I can change that as well, I just do not wish to have so many extra parts.

If you believe that might be the cause I can change that as well.

The switches can also be iffy! For a fairly smallish outlay, try swapping the switches to see if that sorts the issue. If you get cheap copies, make sure you get green ones, unless you are happy with red as usually they are VW red.

Left your windows down at any point and the inside got wet? I recently had to change my drivers side switch as the PCB got wet and corroded.

Hi Mick,

The issue only started after the cable got broken on the driver side, which is strange that inside of protection bunch of the wires were broken due to the hard plastic around the cable and some of them were the main power to the window motor, but this doesn't make sense why the passager side is not working, as I have replaced the driver cable + motor.

My issue started with some thing like that

replaced that on the driver side

replace the motor on the driver side

replaced switch buttons on the driver side

replaced the konfort computer.

Hi its a while back for you but.....did you ever get a fix?  I have almost exactly the same problem   not tried the removing the passenger fuse to see if that affects the driver side..    All motors work - like you I can drive the windows down/up with the key in the lock.  stripped  the door switches - they are  clean and look good.   But windows dont work using either switch.     All since the wires broke at the door hinge....   I fitted a brand new door harness.

anything you have could be helpful!

cheers

Stuart
