Octavia Jerks or revs High in 3rd Gear and acceleration is bumpy in high revs

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I have started noticing recently that my Sokda octavia MKIII DSG is jerky in 3rd gear when shifting to 4th gear and also when accelerating at high speed i notice Rev needle jerking while accelerating and i can feel the car is accelerating in intervals. I can feel sudden push in accelerating for example if i was going from 70 mph to 80 mph it will not be smooth but like jerky feeling. Rev needle spikes a bit than i feel a push then spikes again and i feel the same push. The acceleration is not smooth.

I had the new mechatronics unit put in by the dealer a while back and it is dud for a timing belt replacement as well. Can anyone please advise me what could be causing this jerk in 3rd to 4th gear and jumpy acceleration?.

many thanks in advance...

I'm not an expert in DSG boxes but it sound like the clutches are on the way out.  How many miles have to done and has it been tuned at all?

It had a brand new mechatronics unit fitted in october and has done 117000 miles. By clutches do you mean the gear box?? 😳😳

In a dsg box there is a set of 2 clutches each handling every other gear.  IIRC its clutch 1 on R,1,3,5 and clutch 2 on 2,4,6.  I've not seen it documented but a lot of cars have torque limiting in the first couple of gears so full force would be applied from 3rd and up causing the slip you describe.  I'm going to guess and say the issue is in 3rd and 5th or 4th and 6th showing that you have a problem with one of the clutches.

The mechatronics is what controls the gearbox.  The clutches are inside the gearbox and should be a serviceable item.

Whats the costs of replaceing the clutches on the dsg gearboxs?
