Limp mode

Featured Replies

I have a 2012  1.6 Octavia green line. The car was going into limp mode a few months ago. I got the egr valve removed and the dpf filter removed and it cured limp mode. Now it has started going into limp mode if it is revved above 3000  the fault code coming up is p00871 which I believe is fuel pressure issue but not sure if this is the problem or it is a turbo issuel

I changed the fuel filter. Any ideas?

My guess from the limited information is the moving parts of the variable vane turbo are starting to stick. Is it worse when going uphill or  other situations requiring high torque?

No it's the same on level road once you go over 3000 it goes straight into limp mode which makes it pretty dodgy trying to overtake. I put a bottle of turbo cleaner into the fuel when I filled up yesterday as I read that it sometimes clears the gunk but yet to see if it works.

Could still be sticky vanes. The vanes move at low revs to produce increased turbo boost, so reducing turbo lag and increasing torque at low revs. If they don't move back fully to the normal position at higher revs, there comes a point (like 3k+ revs) where the turbo is producing too much boost and then triggers a reduction in power (limp mode) and may or may not (usually not) bring up a dash warning light.

You can confirm this cause by turning the ignition off and on (when stationary) and if overboost; the limp mode will be reset.

Did your 1.6 have the fix? If so, more carbon is produced and more chance of sticky vanes, especially if used for short journeys.

P00871 fault code is  Bass Speaker Front Right (R23)

So I drove about 100 miles today mostly town driving. when I was going home I put the car up to 4000 and no limp mode so hopefully it was sticky vanes and the turbo cleaner worked. (it was Wynns turbo cleaner from Halfords}

P00871 isn't a valid "P" code if it wass a VW code and you've just added th "P" ?  then as stated above that refers to the Bass Speaker

Sorry the code was P0087

Follow the link above and you will see references to failure of the High pressure Fuel Pump, and how to check for metal particles from the pump.

I'm not really up on this as it's not something I'm looking to do at the moment, but if you remove the DPF does it not have to be coded out? If that is correct, has the OP had that done?

Also, is coding out required for the EGR valve?

Yes both dpf and egr valve coded out
