Smoking in a demo

Featured Replies

Usual me , always doing something wrong. Got a 5 hour demo of an Octy VRS today . On returning the car I got stuck in traffic and decided that if I rolled down the windows I could have a cheeky fag.

So returned the car picked up mine from servicing.

On way home got an email on my phone saying please contact xxx as the car has cigarette smoke damage.

So what can they do , what can they charge ?

I will of course apologise , it was stupid and I knew I shouldn't

Should imagine it will be at least a grand for threatening to defect to an Octy!:D

Seriously though, unless you've burned something I would expect nothing more than a telling off. The very worst it would need is an air freshener spray around. Better still, make them a cheeky offer against the "smoke-damaged car"...

Love @BriskodaJeff idea about the cheeky offer 😂

but more importantly, what did you think of the Octavia VRS?

You are going to have to read the T&C's they send you that you had signed before taking the car away.

There will clearly have been a no smoking or farting or carrying smelly food sign in the vehicle....

What do you have in your bowl ( That's bowl not bowel ) in the morning . :o

If they have not got your CC then you are lucky,, if they then I agree with JR.

Firstly the VRS compared to my Sportline 190,, hmm interior low rent , seats nylonic, The power however was fantastic and on that one note , I would prob consider the OCTY Challenge verison.

As to the smoking issue Guilty as charged , dealer puts on small black cap.

The paper work was signed by me , but no copy was given. Who T F reads the gubbins .  I know I shouldn't but at no point was I told , no smoking , no bongs , no prozzies , no badger baiting!

Hope the weather is good , been abso rubbish for the last 3 weeks here , rain every day.

FWIW the process to deodorize a car is not inexpensive for the dealer. It will require some specialized detailing costing them several hours labour.

As a non-smoker I would be able to tell you smoked in that car if they left it with the windows open for a month. It's really that big of a deal and makes the demo car useless until they can fix it.

As to the windows open for a month, the vehicle would be filled with so many contaminates such as dampness, insects, car exhaust  pollution, tramps urine. Yet you still would be able to detect the nano particles given off by one cigarette 30 days prior. GET YOURSELF ON CSI MY FRIEND ,, your talents are wasted here!!!

Any non-smoker will confirm this. It's not CSI at all. You smoke in a car and it will take months to disparate without deodorizing. Same for hotel rooms. There are so many soft-materials that trap the smell. This is not a moral judgement, its just the facts of life. Cigarette smoke is nothing like the smells that have wafted through the car while driving it. Same for wood-smoke. You park the car with the windows open near a camp fire, same thing.

You do realise you can just turn the heating up on the climate control, if you’re cold?

On  a more serious note any demo car is classed as a company vehicle as are vans and lorries not owned by an individual . Therefore it is ILLEGAL to smoke in any company vehicle and you can be fined if they want to take it further. Smoking in someone else's vehicle is not a joke.

I was ‘on holiday’ in the Falklands and returned home to find our Ford Focus absolutely stinking of smoke. It turns out my sister-in-law, who visited for the weekend, two months prior had thought it was ok to smoke in my car. I was f’ing furious.  I ended up parking the car up at work with all the windows and boot open for a few days before giving the whole interior a deep clean.

Obviously it was my fault for over reacting. 🙄

The OP is not an employee of VW Group / Finance, the Dealership or dealership group.

Yes it is a jolly bad egg that is smoking in other peoples vehicles IMO.

Also driving them like a hire car, remapping them while you have a loan of them or taking them to Track Days. 1/4 RWB's etc.

Bad show fitting tuning boxes or chip tuning vehicles you rent for a year or 3.
