Hi, my old 2005 Superb 1.9 TDI 130bhp car that I passed on to my son has had it's engine management/warning light on for some time. A scan revealed the EGR valve was the problem so we stripped it down and gave it a good clean.

After refitting it my son reset the fault to clear the warning light from the dash, however a few days later it has come back on.  Another scan points to the EGR valve again, does this mean that the unit needs replacement or is there anything else to do with this valve that can cause this fault to register?  A garage has just quoted him £218 + VAT for the EGR valve from Skoda. Searching on ebay there are lots in the range of £30 to £110 - anyone used these after market units? Thanks for any advice.

Does the engine "shudder " on turn off?

 

These engines can have problems with EGR/Turbo/anti-shudder with vaccum leak  issues

My son has not told me of any problems in these areas and the car has just been in to a garage for it's annual service so I don't think the car is suffering in this way but I have emailed him just to make sure.

Hi again, quick reply from my son - he said that his car doesn't shudder or stall.
