2018 vRS Windshield buzz at higher speed

Featured Replies

Hi there, There is an issue which is driving me crazy in my 1 year oldvRS 2.0 TSI.

At highway speed (above 100 KPH/60 MPH), there is a buzz coming from the windshield, as if a bug would be stuck there. You can hear it all over the dashboard, so I don't think it is specific to any side, but it is really hard to tell. The tricky bit is that until now, I could only hear it at lower external temperatures (below 10 Celsius), but now it started to be present even at a higher temp, but it is not always there. (At least not when it is really hot outside.)

The car is of course still under warranty, but my dealer did not acknowledge the issue, so I am stuck with this very annoying noise, and no solution whatsoever. (In all fairness, on the day I got the service appointment we had a heatwave, so it is totally possible that the buzz was not present when they took the car for a spin.)

Any ideas what could be the cause? Thank you very much in advance!

is it the sound aktuator?

i had an infuriating buzz from underneath the internal mirror surround and had to take the cover off and use a little bit of foam to stop the buzz. it was a bit fiddly to remove - you need a shim to unclick both hidden clips

@adomate Does your car have a ticket holder clip on the driver's side A-post? If so, try putting some cardboard between it and the glass.

Thank you for the tip. I will definitely ask a mechanic to check it out, however, I am not sure, as the buzz is not dependent on the RPM, but rather the speed I am traveling, and it is also present if I put the gearbox into neutral on the highway. (And I use the car on the most silent setting since pretty much day2.)

My buzzing was caused by a scuttle panel (outside, below wipers/bonnet). Dependent on wind speed and direction. Dealer could not replicate but adjusted under warranty, now fixed.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the tip. I am suspecting that this is the issue (even though the dealer does not believe in that), because the scuttle please even feels wobbly on my car when stationary. I will check it with another dealership. Thanks again!

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the tip. I tried to figure out if it is the ticket holder, but it seems stable, so I guess this is not the issue.

No problem, and even if it didn't work, that's effectively free to try.
