Short "knock" sound when opening the boot

Featured Replies

Hi

I have Skoda Octavia Estate 2017. When I press the button to open the boot, there is a short and loud "knock" sound halfway up (always at the same level). When I press the button to close it, then there is almost no sound at all.

Any ideas what it could be?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Jakobov

If I press and hold the boot button on my remote fob, there is a loud dull noise and the tail gate cracks open.

The remote can not reclose the tailgate. It has to be manually opened and slammed.

If press the unlock and the lock button the sharper noise is the same each time.

Did you find the problem? My car knocked toda6 when opening, about halfway

I had something similar on a MK II. It was a loose ball head bolt that the gas strut clips on to. The opening and closing action over time had unscrewed the bolt. Not sure if the MK III is similar and could suffer this problem.

Checked the bolts, seem ok

Its the boot struts - my first Octy did that.  You can either try a light grease on the structs or check the fixings at the top and bottom of the struct to see if they are slightly corroded.

Ok, i opened and closed a few times and now i have a worse problem. The boot wont shut. The right damper is stuck whit about 3cm left and wont budge. So i have an half-open trunk standing in my driveway 😞

anyone had the same problem? As i have a used car quarantee i dont want to remove the electric strut as i hope this will be covered under warranty...

Hi @maskan! I got the same knock-sound half-way problem. Have you been able to solve the problem and knows why the knock-sound occured?
