7spd DSG "shudder" 1st - 2nd

Featured Replies

Hi folks.

I have a 2018 Superb 1.4 TSI (So, this is the infamous DQ200 DSG box) with 17k on the clock. Bought earlier this year with 14k.

Have noticed now that I have become more used to the car and the DSG, when I accelerate very gently from a stop, the box will change up to D2 at about 4 or 5mph and this seems to result in a shudder/vibration for a few seconds until the car gets up to about 10mph, then it is smooth.

When I go into manual mode, it won't even let me change into 2nd at that low a speed. Happens regardless of the car being cold or warm.

It's not massively noticeable (my wife hasn't mentioned it) but it seems like it is changing up to 2nd too soon and my concern, given the less than stellar reputation of the DQ200 that this is causing wear on the box. Alternatively, there is already a problem with the box and I should get it into the garage ASAP while still under warranty.

I've seen threads similar to this previously, but they all appear to be related to older cars (like, 2014 sort of age) and not 2018 cars.

So, is this just a "characteristic"?

Maybe it's similar to a manual, where when the revs are too low it'll shudder whilst it's trying not to stall?  I've a DSG6 (wet clutch) and mine, too, changes to 2nd quite quickly.  I've not noticed any shuddering, but I'll try and take more notice whilst I'm tackling the obstacle course that are our estate roads.

Never having had an automatic before, yes, it does feel a bit like that feeling in a manual but that tends to send vibrations through the pedals, which I'm not really getting.
