Fuel system

Featured Replies

I broke down the other day total loss of power so I phoned the rac who came out to look and said fuel pumps knackered after banging it to see if it would free it at no point did he check the power to the pump he continued to keep cranking the ignition but nothing so arranged recovery to garage within 5 minutes of getting to the garage was told the fuse had blown! But because he kept trying to start it drained all the fuel out of the pipes so had air in it when they bled the system found metal filings no it may cost close to £2000 to sort. Do you think I could claim some if not all towards the cots from the rac? Thanks

Good luck with that as its absolutely nothing to do with them.

Be a man and take responsability for your own situation.

Contrarywise; The RAC claim to be expert mechanics, and the standard of work is well below that which might reasonably be expected.

You've probably signed (even without realising it) a disclaimer that releases them from responsibility, but if the garage is willing to put that into writing then it's worth trying.  Even if they agree to contribute towards the repair that would help - no harm in asking!

I cannot see that the RAC patrolman did anything to cause the scavenge pump to fail and push metallic debris through the system, he was just doing his job trying to get someone mobile again if possible.

If this sort of response becomes the norme then they will never again attempt any roadside repair and just tow you to a garage.

Depends what engine we are talking here and where the metallic debris is.

If the metallic debris is from the HPFP on a CR engine or the aux. fuel pump has been starved then I would say the RAC man is responsible as anybody with half a brain cell that works on diesel cars knows that running a HPFP dry is bad.

If its just the lift pump that has gone bad then its just bad luck. There is also no way of knowing if this contamination was not there before, this could of been the cause of the troubles to begin with
