will 20" wheels fit on a Mk3 superb?

Featured Replies

i'm assuming they will, but what kind of offset and tyre sizes work best?

by the way, i know they will ruin the ride, and i dont care, they wont be used that often and i cant help but think how good they will look!!

They will fit, but would need really shallow tyres,

fine for billiard table smooth showroom floors,

completely useless on anything other than a perfectly smooth road

Holy thread revival batman!

Does anyone know if 9jx20 et41 wheels will fit?

Am assuming they will have to be on 255/30/20 rubber, or am I incorrect there?

Thanks!

The Jaguar XF uses 255/45R18, 255/40R19, 255/35R20 tyres for its 18" to 20" wheel options. Slightly bigger outside diameter than the Superb MK3 but you might get away with these sizes.

The 19" tyre needs about 3psi more tyre pressure than the 18" tyre, and the 20" needs about 6psi more tyre pressure than the 18" tyre. With such a big difference in tyre pressure, the 18" option is far more comfortable than the 20" option.

The reason for such a big difference in tyre pressure is the big difference in sidewall height and therefore load index at 3 Bar (44psi). The 18" tyre has about 1" more sidewall height than the 20" tyre, and this is a massive difference. It means that the sidewalls on the 18" tyre can flex a lot more than the sidewalls on the 20" tyre, resulting in a much longer contact patch (if not overinflated) and corresponding far more comfortable ride.

At 3 Bar (44psi), the 20" tyre has a load index of 93 (650kg), the 19" tyre has a load index of 96 (710kg), and the 18" tyre has a load index of 99 (775kg).

With the Skoda Superb MK3's 8Jx18 ET44 alloy rims, I would probably go with 245/45R18 tyres. Much more resistant to pothole damage than 20" rims and just one size up on the standard 235/45R18 size tyre.

There seems to be a bit more choice in 245/45R18 tyres than 235/45R18 tyres and often cheaper too. Here's a listing on camskill for the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 in size 245/45 R18 100Y

Vredestein Quatrac Pro are available in the 245/45R18 size
