Hello,

going to check today

on my car have to remove battery to get to it

very puzzled, had a 16 mile run, light was on all the time, steering as normal, switched off.

on return journey started engine light went out, never came on again, it has done this before, pump is just over a year old now, had little use, also have new battery which is fully charged

did start the other day and lights were dimming, only done this once

thankyou

If the pump is noisy then the level is almost certainly getting low.

Will check many thanks

had mot last week, pass with no advisory

I'd put money on the rack leaking internally which has dropped the level down just enough that it's pulling in a bit of air.

Ross - is there a way to bleed a new system, ie one that's been totally drained? Does the PAS pump need power to bleed it or does the old fashioned method of turning the wheel lock to lock burp the air out?

Lock to lock until it stops gurgling covers it.

Of course the pump has to actually be running during the operation.

Checking PAS fluid levels is your responsibility, it's not checked at the MOT.

Have checked level slightly down, topped up, noise not as bad

The rack can leak into the passenger side rack gaiter from the end seal. Mine has a very slow leak there. I only found out when I removed the gaiter to replace it. Took a long long time for this to build up...

TMB- something else not taught in HMG production learn to  drive line.

Rule 1 - before parking vehicle at end of day , check ground vehicle is to be parked on for marks. Rule 2 , next day , walk round vehicle and look for any spillage marks on ground. if necessary , move vehicle and check marks. Oil spills will turn bluey on application of water. Brake fluid has it's own unique feel and plain damp dripping off vehicle is easy to spot. Rear washers not working- try them and check ground for wet patches.

Sorry I don't know what that means. However, there was nothing leaking onto the ground, it was all contained in the bellows until I opened it.

Being very sceptical about the driving tuition system. It's all very well knowing how to check the fluids, but a quick cursory check around the car can show up many problems before they occur on a drive. But then I come from an age where the odd oil leak was not an unexpected occurrence and you learned to identify other types of leaks by the appearance/smell etc of the puddle. I call it an advanced vehicle check,as opposed to the normal one, which most drivers don't do . Admittedly your leak wouldn't have shown up on this, but a lot of other leaks do .
